Rear End Lube Empty Rear End Lube

Hey Guys, what are you running for rear end lube? 80/90 conventional? Synthetic/Brand name?
I am going to pull the cover to fix a leak and I am looking for suggestions on what to fill her up with. LOL
What's a good gasket sealer?
I have a 10 bolt posi original to the car with newer 3.42 gears.

I'd use Havoline 80w90 for the oil and I'd use "therightstuff" gasket maker in a tube. Let it set up as per the instructions, then assemble. Permatex also makes some good gasket sealer.

How about limited slip additive?

Correction: Its Valvoline that I've been using. http://www.valvoline.com/our-products/grease-gear-oil/high-performance-gear-oil
I didnt use any additive last time I did mine and havent had any chattering. But you can always add it if you have some chattering.

I've been using gasket maker without any paper gaskets. They make a nice bead when you let them set up. And no possibility of any "wicking" over time.

Try it without the additive first. That just makes the clutches slip. Dont make them slip more than they have to. And if it's the original differential the clutches aren't probably too tight.

Is changing the differential fluid as straight forward as it seems? I have a little leak and want to reseal and add fresh oil. Do non posi rear ends use the same 80/90 oil? How much fluid is needed to refill the diff? Is it better to use sealant vs gasket?

Just pull the rear cover, let it drain and wipe it all out. HOWEVER, make sure you can get the fill plug out of the side of the differential first. You want to be sure you can refill it to the correct level BEFORE draining it. And any hypoid gear oil is fine for it. Additives in the oil won't affect a non-posi differential.

Upon further review, it looks like the leak is from the front pinion seal where the drive shaft connects to the differential. That might be a little over my head so I will probably have to take it to a shop to fix.
