Vehicles drawn? Vehicles saved from the crusher!

A friend saved this 1976 MC from the scrap yard!

Have you saved any from the crusher, & if so, what?
I drew this while in high school, just a few short years ago:

Re: Vehicles drawn? Vehicles saved from the crusher!
Saved a 96 Impala SS.
Long story short, guy got busted for counterfeiting and was headed to fed prison. Sold it to me for lawyer money.
It was filthy, (the dash was perfect because it had been protected from the sun by 1/2 inch of nicotine scuzz and dirt) beat to hell and not running. Hours of elbow grease (Simple Green and Mothers Wheel Polish is some BADASS stuff) , some CL replacement interior pieces, rotors and brakes, a battery, O2 sensors, tune up , power window motors, CL Caprice hood and fender, tires, some very expensive and hard to find exterior trim pieces with a friends 1k paint job
Lost a couple hundred bucks when I sold it, but she stayed on the road. I sold it to a school teacher who was buying it for his dad as a retirement present. Good ending.

Re: Vehicles drawn? Vehicles saved from the crusher!
Thanks Joe.
It was a lot of fun and really close mechanically to a G3, lots of parts in common.
They're pretty cheap nowadays, been thinking about another one. Won't happen because of space issues, but I can dream about it.

I used to really want a impala SS, but I've pretty much gotten over it. They definitely didn't age that well, but I'm sure that's the case with most newer "old" cars.

Re: Vehicles drawn? Vehicles saved from the crusher!
Many of them fell into the hands of people who eventually went to prison
For some reason the Imp SS in particular seemed to become the "car to have" for thugs. I see them around for pretty cheap, but a lot have been modified for giant wheels, painted to look like a frosted flakes box or just mistreated.
If I had the space, I'd really like to find a decent 91-96 Wagon. Caprice or Roadmaster wagon would be a lot of fun.

Re: Vehicles drawn? Vehicles saved from the crusher!
A guy at work was gonna send this '79 Cutlass to the crusher.
Bought it for $400, lot of elbow grease, engine was seized which I managed to get unstuck and drove it a few years. Used a quart of oil every fuel up, but it was a comfortable smooth driving car.

Re: Vehicles drawn? Vehicles saved from the crusher!
Wait ...he was going to send THAT to the crusher? Holy crap. That would've been almost as blasphemous as some of the cars turned in for the "Cash For Clunkers" program......aye.

Saved a 79 z28 and a 70 t bird and a 87 t -type. The T probably wasnt going to the crusher though neither was the Bird but the z could have. All are still on the road.

Re: Vehicles drawn? Vehicles saved from the crusher!
My '75 Laguna was one day away from being sold to a guy who was going to buy it for an upcoming Demo Derby...and ultimately, headed to the crusher. Would have been a real shame being that it has a solid, rust-free AZ body and original 350-2bbl that still pulls pretty well. Here's what it looked like when I brought it home and unloaded it at daughter's house.

Man, that's like being on death row and getting a last minute pardon from the governor.
