Part identification
Hey how's it going everyone? Been a busy year and a half, now it's time to get back to the car. Still not put back together but making a bit of progress....
The newest obstacle is thisbrace that seems to be bent. According to the manual, it's a front crossmembar brace.
Can anyone confirm that it's the correct part?
Thanks!
Jackie

Hey, Jackie...been missin' ya on here!
Pretty sure it's called the crossmember brace...and, am sure from your photo that it's bent. If someone on here doesn't have one laying around, let me know and I'll try and pick one for you.

Re: Part identification
Yes, thats a crossmember brace. If you run headers you might have to remove them, or one side, depending on header brand. You should be able to straighten it out if you remove it.

Re: Part identification
I do have headers. Maybe that's why the drivers side is bent. If I find that I have to use the bent one, at least I will know why. If I need a straight one, MCarlo, you will be the first one I call...
Thanks!
Thanks!

I had to remove mine on Drive side to get my long tubes to fit

Re: Part identification
My left side didn't fit either. I made a longer bent one out of some steel pipe. Flattened & drilled the ends.

Re: Part identification
That supports your shift linkage from steering column.

Re: Part identification
One of the frame braces on mine has a slight bend also. I'm not gonna worry about it, although it would be easy enough to bend it straight.
That bracket for the transmission shift linkage uses a tapered nylon bushing in it, held in place with a spring on the linkage rod.
Unless you are going to a floor shift, you are gonna need it, along with the rest of the linkage...

Re: Part identification
Oh alright. I have a floor shifter, so I've never seen it in use.

Re: Part identification
The linkage connects to the steering column to change the gear selector on the column. You will still have to connect it even if you have an auto floor shiter to see what gear you are in if your gear selector is on the column. Probably not needed if you have a manual.

Re: Part identification
I believe it unbolts from the frame if you want to remove it. I kept it for my floor shifter so that I could have a neutral safety switch. http://www.pontiacsonline.com/SSJ%20Auto%20Stick%20and%20Computer.jpg

Re: Part identification
I feel like this is one of those "DOH!" moments, but what is this hole for?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Part identification
Right. I knew that. It's been so long since this car has been together, I'm starting to forget what went where.
