My Latest Project - 75 Laguna
Here's my latest project I bought to flip. I already have a blue 75 Laguna but couldn't pass up this opportunity. I bought this from the 2nd owner here in Houston that owned it since the early 90's. It was repainted shortly after and is mostly original. Its fully loaded with a 400 4BL V-8, swivel buckets, power windows, locks, trunk, factory tach, dual remote mirrors, auxiliary lighting package, rear defrost...even the cruise control and a/c works. I was told that the mileage is accurate on the speedo but I have my doubts since it shows 29k miles. I'm thinking its closer to 80-100k even though the original interior look to be in good shape. It does have rust however above the door glass from the vinyl top it once had. Also has some rust in the rear quarters. Overall its a nice car and drives great. I will be posting this on ebay in the next week or two if anyone is interested. I will post the link when auction is active.

Thanks! It looks nice in the pics but its more like a 20 footer. The closer you get the more you can tell it needs paint and a little body work. It will be a great project for someone in the near future. I will try to make sure it gets a good home with someone who will give it the proper attention. Wish my toy box was bigger otherwise I'd keep it and restore it properly myself. Here a few more pics.

Yeah, but the thing is a factory swivel car, kinda unusual for a 75 I think

Just looking at the passenger side interior pic.  On the side of the dash, to the right of the radio, is that the joystick for a  remote passenger mirror?  If so, thats a rare option!!!

Yeah I guess we're lucky here in the south when it comes to serious rust. Although southern cars sometimes rust in the strangest places. This car had the rear passenger side floorboard replaced but the others are original and still solid. There's also a rust hole above the drivers side window which I assume came from the vinyl top that it originally had. Here's some pics of the rust. As far as the remote passenger side mirror, both my 75 Lagunas and 75 Camino have them. I know its optional equipment but I'm not sure how rare that is. I know the power trunk release is a rare option as well as the factory tach. And I'm amazed that everything works on the car with the exception of the clock. Dont think I've ever seen one of these working in the 25 years I've been playing with these cars.

Remote passenger mirrors are VERY hard to find...more so than a power trunk release. My Monte came with them... and, Laguna now has the trunk release installed and will be receiving a RH remote mirror I recently found.
As for the dash clock, I've pulled many of them and I've found you have a better than 50% chance of getting them to work if you pull the casing apart and lubricate the inner gears/windings.

Even with those flaws ... & the rust ... it still looks in better shape than some cars I've seen for sale for what seemed outrageous amounts. Then again, I'm not as versed with the monetary value of the Lagunas. I'd be tempted to drive it as is for a while.

I looked at a clock I had out a few years back and I couldn't tell how it would come apart. Do you have any tips you can share to do this?

Okay...for yours and anyone else's interest in how these clocks come apart for cleaning, here's a tutorial:
1) Remove the hands of the clock.
2) Straighten the three tabs around the perimeter of the clock face plate so it can be lifted up. It will NOT come all the way off as it is collared to the adjustment knob shaft. It WILL allow you to rotate it so that you can access the crimped edges that hold the plate below it containing the windings/gears
3) Use pliers or pry tool (I use a small tack puller) to straighten out those crimped edges...of which there are 4 or 5 of them. This will release that plate and it can be lifted up and out of the lower "cup" that the windings/gears sit in. Easier to gently push up on the electrical prongs on the bottom as you're pulling up on the plate.
4) Voila...here are the inner works! If your coil windings look like this, you have a real good chance of resurrecting your clock by lubricating them with a light oil or WD40. If they have a dark coating of melted resin, your windings are probably toast. You can manually wind the works, and give the little flywheel a gentle flick to get things moving and loosened up. I do that several times to make sure it moves through the entire cycle...then, the real test is to put power to it and see if it will wind itself.
I have done coil winding transplants, but from other clocks that have mechanical or cosmetic issues. As I understand it, there are no new replacement coils available. Good luck!
