Re: Check out this G-body Elco
The front is a bit too "white" for me...looks cool otherwise.

Pretty cool. I like the stripe. Never seen that done like that.

Re: Check out this G-body Elco
Way too gaudy for my taste, specially the wheels.....and on top of that, I don't like G bodies..

Re: Check out this G-body Elco
Bill- tell us how you really feel.
It's funny how some of us can like something & others not. Makes for good conversation but I wish it was on a bar stool & not over the net
I'm not a big G body fan with the exceptions of the Elco, Grand National & Cutlass 442's/Hurst's. The Elco above (in my opinion) was done nicely as a "pro touring" concept. But any car done like that is a "love it or hate it" thang.

Forgot about those! The maroon on maroon color scheme was common back in my day. They looked good though.

Re: Check out this G-body Elco
Remember ProStreet cars with huge wheel tubs & narrow skinny fronts? They had odd paint colors (like aqua or pink) and cool sine-wave graphics? Think of how dated & trendy those cars look today and then look at some of today's current 'Pro-Touring' like this Camino. In 20 years, will those red circus wheels still be cool?

Re: Check out this G-body Elco
Last year, or the year before, I sold a 78 Elkie for $300 and threw in over $300 in new parts, such as weatherstripping, door handles and interior parts, etc. It had a 350 engine/trans and all new or undamaged/ rust free body panels. It had a 6 year old MAACO paint job I was aiming to reshoot myself. I even bought a compresser and several paint guns and many other air tools so I could paint it. That's when my health dropped like a rock. I could not work on it, so made the guy promise to finish it without parting it out. All it needed was to be tubbed out and a paint job and interior swapped out. JB P.S. now to get

Re: Check out this G-body Elco
A G body. story.......in 1977 I ordered a new El Camino, a '78, thinking it would be like the '73 to '77.
WRONG ! When it came in, I told the salesman, who I knew very well, "I don't want the ugly SOB" ! Weird paint scheme on it too. "and what's with the after-thought little window behind the door glass ?"
Told the salesman I would keep my '73 before I would buy that new one. But then he said, "we have a left-over "77 Classic, in Firethorn red " ( ) And I bought it & had it until 2009 when the rust finally had it's way.
But, I had an '84 Buick Regal Limited, which I assume was a G body. Very nice car...

G3 Elcos are A bodies, and I'm on my 4th one. I don't care for the top pic, but the bottom one looks OK And I believe the bottom one is a '75 according to the grille....

Memories
Let me share a special memory.
When I got home from Vietnam in 1970 I wanted to buy a new car. After shopping around I decided the 71 Monte Carlo SS was the ticket.
I ordered a Black 71 SS M/C with the LS6 engine and 4 speed with all the options except a sunroof. I had to wait for 9 weeks before it arrived. I had arranged with the dealership owner to be present when the car arrived on the transport. Finally the big day. I got the promised call, my car would arrive the following day and what time it was scheduled to arrive at the dealership. Of course I arrived early the next morning with great anticipation only to learn the driver had a mechanical problem with his transporter, so, I waited. He arrived around 3PM. Naturally my car was loaded at the front of the hauler, I had to wait until all the other cars were unloaded. You should have heard that 454 when it was started. The transport driver after backing my car to the down ramps allowed me to drive the car down the ramps where I proceeded to drive the car into the dealership for make ready delivery prep. Well, I think every salesman and I'm certain all the shop mechanics had to have a look at this specimen. The make ready took several hours so now its getting late but two mechanics and the make ready guy volunteered to stay over so I could take delivery.
I have to tell you once the Monte was all cleaned up it shined like a diamond, It was absolutely breath taking. The power of this car was pronominal.
I learned very quickly this car was very powerful, you had to take it easy with the throttle as it would snap the tires lose instantly. I was one proud peacock of my purchase. I had no problems with this car while I was the owner. Only 3 clutches and the requisite new tires. When I sold her she had 46000 miles and still looked new.
I kept the car for 25 years until I was made an offer I couldn't refuse. The new owner had the car loaded into an enclosed trailer and they headed off to Calif.
I don't know what ever happened to the car after it left Tulsa for the West coast. I do know they had a very rare and totally original Monte Carlo to be proud of.
That's one of my special memories and I thank you for letting me share this time of my life with everyone. Jerry

Re: Check out this G-body Elco
And speaking of G body Elcos, my niece has an '87 she says she is gonna give me ! It's black....
I did some work on it some time ago...
Being that it's black, I may just keep it....( parts hauler !)
