My new 76 Malibu

I picked this up yesterday along with a 75 Laguna.
I've really been trying to build something fast that handles well and people keep giving me more money than I have in things and I can't keep a project.
So my 74 wagon and my bagged Suburban is for sale so that I can continue building my .030 over 6.0 LS engine and hopefully build this quickly so I can drive it by spring.
It's a 44,000 mile 76 Malibu with NO options and I'm the 2nd owner. I already have some parts that I collected for the wagon that I'll be putting on this. Hoping to make a Autocross style build with a little 70's NASCAR influence.

Does it have the 6 banger motor? It does look pretty solid, good luck w/ it.

Thanks guys! It's pretty clean. It was in a field and the rear wheel lips have a little rot but not too bad.
Plan:
Engine
.030 over 6.0 LS. Heavily worked heads, 12.5:1. Shooting for 475hp or so. Should be right at it.
4L80E with a stall and a shift kit
9" axle
coilovers on all 4 corners
Fiberglass everything. Gutted interior, caged, sheetmetal dash, lexan side windows..
18x12s in the rear with 335/30s and 18x10 in the front with 285/30s.
If I sell the Suburban soon this will happen rather quickly.

A nice project there. Do you think you need a 4L80 for strength ? or because of being tough, and
with an overdrive ?

Both really. A 4L80 will handle around 700hp with a shift kit and a servo. My friend has a standard cab short bed '04 Chevy 2wd that we swapped a 6.0 into. He has a $2,400 Stage 6 4L60 and he's having problems with it holding. The top of the ladder is a stage 7 that's fully billet and is in the company's 7 second drag car.

The 4L80 is a tough box alright......not sure how much it weighs. Would have liked to use one behind the 507 inch Caddy engine in my Elco.....

Hopefully I can actually look at this thing this Sunday. I bought it at sun down and the trunk had no key so I'm not too not too sure what kind of shape it's in. I know it's not too nice to cut up and make fast though. I was a little worried about my plan for tires but when I measured I found out these cars will swallow wide tires. Is anyone running (and tucking) a super wide tire in the rear without tubs?

This is a 295/50R15 on a 10" wide ralley, they have never rubbed and I've had six people in the car driving around one night! I can get better pics tonight if you want.

Can you look and see how much room you have if it was about 5" lower please? I know my wagon would swallow them but the wheelwells are more square than a coupe.

My daughter (6 years old) loves to ride in the chevelle. Probably a lot has to do with the fact she can ride in the front ..no air bags.

The car got backed into many years ago in a parking lot and the guy that ran into it tried to remove the dent for my great, great aunt who originally owned it. He didn't do a good job at all but it must not have bothered her enough to make his insurance pay.
