Re: Dashboard Speaker in 74 Chevelle
On my chevelle they are four holes on the perimeter of the speaker, with a metal bracket that surrounds the speaker and bolts to the underside of the dash. Its usually a mono speaker, but the newer stereo speakers could work if you can modify the mount system, or possibly swap right in. Neither of my G3' have radios so I can't elaborate anymore than that.

Re: DASHBOARD SPEAKER IN 74 CHEVELLE
Here's a pic of the std mono speaker mtg. As Bruisr said, the 6" x 9" speaker is mounted to a metal plate on all four corners and the metal plate is then mounted to the underside of the dash.
Now, here's a dual speaker setup found on some A bodies. These speakers are 4" x 6" and mount on a different style metal plate...but, still attaches to the underside of the dash at the same points as the mono speaker bracket. The speakers shown in this photo are actually out of a '78 or '79 Impala and were a near perfect fit. Just had to drill a couple screw holes in slightly different locations so the mtg pegs on the bracket would align to allow attachment to the bracket.

Re: Dashboard Speaker in 74 Chevelle
I would guess yes, but until someone tries it we won't know for sure. Â Honestly it would take only very basic fabrication skills to make your own. Â That's usually what I do.dragons_lair59 wrote:My? Â Is lmc truck makes a dual speaker set up for truck dashes would they bolt in?

Re: Dashboard Speaker in 74 Chevelle
You can always "bottom mount" the speakers and carpet the package tray if you don't like the way it looks.

Re: Dashboard Speaker in 74 Chevelle
Just get a new repo package tray for 25 bucks and mount the speakers underneath like stock. If you cant find a Buick package tray, use a Chevy and alter it slightly. If that doesn't work, cover your existing tray in SPEAKER CLOTH. It will let the sound thru and will look better than carpet.

Re: Dashboard Speaker in 74 Chevelle
My package tray has the same material covering it as what's on the seat that is the sad part. And every chevy and olds I've seen has just the plain package tray it's even the same cloth as top of door panels

Re: Dashboard Speaker in 74 Chevelle
That wouldent be that hard to cover up and make normal looking (assuming that's what you want) the hardest part would be matching the upholstery. Â I made my own on my '60 olds out of very thin plywood, covered it with contact paper (to give it texture) and painted to match. Â It came out very well, and was my only option as no one makes replacement parts for a '60 olds.

Re: Dashboard Speaker in 74 Chevelle
Might just put in speakers for now and fix it later down the road when I have the funds to redo interior and have it match. Lower door panels are white and some trim maroon, black and even blue. Seat is close to right color but pattern different since I gotit ffrom a El Camino

Re: Dashboard Speaker in 74 Chevelle
I replaced the tray cover on my '74, with a cover I bought, to match interior color, and have the speakers mounted on the top surface, with the frames/grilles that came with them. I painted the grilles with the interior color, which in my case is Firethorn red.

Re: Dashboard Speaker in 74 Chevelle
What screws are used to attached the bracket to the dash? Does anyone have a picture of it attached?

Re: Dashboard Speaker in 74 Chevelle
I'll take a picture tomorrow. My dash is mostly apart and the original speaker is there.
