LOL! I hear ya! I just want something different, I don't have a lot of money, sometimes none at all. I like the idea of it, and definitely different, but now imagine some flames spitting out of there! Altho, just for show the flames are what really got me going. I don't mind inputs whether good or bad, I just don't think people need to be rude about it. Feel free! I need to fab up another exhaust system for my 454, currently don't have anything on there now. I've thought about sidepipes or my version of them, but to do it the way I want I need to C-section the frame where the pipes will exit from under the car so I can get the most ground clearance possible. Brake lines and fuel lines inside the frame rails will need to be rerouted, not ready to do that much yet.

I just have a concern about the potential route the pipes may have to take to position them there. I assume you would go through the floor and cover.
That exposes you to a potential exhaust leak inside the cab unless you create an airtight conduit for the pipe to go through.
At least it isn't 10" pipes like the local cowboys do to their pickups.

It looks cool. A few years ago at the local figure 8 track a guy was running a '77 elcamino with the exhaust set up like that. I personally would not be keen on cutting holes in sheet metal but if you like i'd say go for it.

I like it but what about the trans am style ones Think smokey and bandit T/A how they curve down .... that would keep the rain out of the pipes a lot better I think, and enclose the pipes so not to see them with some sheet metal cover painted to match trucks inner bed

I plan to use a 3 in. pipe welded to the floorboard and cover then slip the 2.5 in. exhaust pipe inside that. Thereby eliminating fumes inside the car and creating a drain for water that accumulates due to the rake of the car. As far as rain inside the pipes, not much rain in Az. even so not a big deal. I will cover the exposed pipes when done, just thinking of a neat way to do it.

Picked up engine from machine shop yesterday. Gotta assemble that first, then I'll work on the exhaust. With the comments I got here, I decided I will do it!

Your car but ....dont do it. Put sidepipes on it maybe even make em yourself but cutting the bed to do that-no way.

Well..it does have a certain "Mad Max" vibe going on.I kinda like the "gothic undustrial" look,it's sinister.Here are 2 more:"Post-apocalyptic Death Machine" or "Death Race 2000".All kidding aside I think you hit on a great new design concept that will improve as you tweek the little stuff.

Sorry to have started this in the wrong forum: I wasn't paying attention when I originally posted. I like the idea of the above pic, but It seems to overpower the overall look. I went ahead and started making up the pipes, but haven't commited to cutting holes yet. I decided to save the sidepipe idea for my chevelle, maybe! I always liked the "Mad Max" theme, its kinda what I'm going for, but not to such an extreme. I just want something different than the norm, but yet, tastefully done. I know to most of you all that are purists, cutting holes in the body/floorboards is a sin, but I have several more ideas about modifying the body, Sorry if it displeases you. Fortunately, welding can repair a lot of things, that is my saving grace.

I have contemplated the rain getting inside the pipes, and have several solutions.
1. Park under cover.
2. Fabricate a removeable cover when covered parking isn't available.
3. Fabricated a small "flapper" to cover the openings. (Like older diesel trucks had), but not big enough to overpower the look.
4. Some tennis balls, to stuff in openings when not using.

Just looked, don't see where I can on website. I stopped buying cars mags: piled up too quickly, and Money for mags, took from car budget. Occasionally I'll see one on the newsstand that I will buy. Thanks for the heads up, I'll go check it out.

Have you thought about a fiberglass or sheetmetal housing over each pipe that stops at cab roof level? It might look pretty slick,sort of a "molded-in" look painted the same color as the body with the top few inches of chrome pipe protruding.

In the top pic, the pipe needs to be routed similar to that because the frame and body mount under the floor board will not allow anything closer to the sidewall of the bed.
Height has yet to be determined
I will leave the tip the stainless look that it is, except I will use a wire wheel to give it a brushed look. The pipe will be painted black to blend in with bed color.
