Big block headers for Monte Carlo
I'm looking into headers for the GM 454 I am planning to buy. GM Performance recommends headers that have 2" primaries, 3 1/2" collectors, and are 36" long.
Did a search at Jegs, and this Hooker model came up: https://www.holley.com/2455-1HKR.asp
However, it says they fit 64-74 Monte Carlo, and mine is a 1975. Is there a reason they don't fit the 75? I thought the 74 and 75 were identical besides some "details", and 75 was
the last big block year as well.

Re: Big block headers for Monte Carlo
1974 was the last year for the 454 I think. I don't see why they wouldn't work. I think they cut off the search criteria by the year because they were not avail in 75. You may have some clearance issues however- my headers are 1-5/8" primaries and I have to jack the car up super high in order to get them on, especially the drivers side.
Could you use Shorties? Chris (73 454 Monte) has a 454 w/ shorties, don't know if they are 2" or not but I think they're working fine for him.

75 was the last year for 454.
but the first year for CATS. so legally you can use them up to 74
i have shorties on my BB. but dont know tha size.
i had to trim the edge of the clam to fit header

1973 454 Monte: is there something you don't know about Montes?
Then the cat must be the reason for cut off at 1974.
Jegs have lot of shorty headers, but they are all 1 3/4" with 3" collector. Doubt if it's a big deal if I settle with 1 3/4" though. Chevy High Performance did a series of tests on the 454 HO, sticking with 1 3/4" for all the combos.

Perhaps 1 3/4" is even better for low end torque than 2"?

Re: Big block headers for Monte Carlo
I looked for them too & couldn't find any shorties with the larger diameter collectors or primaries you specified.
Yeah- LOL he's had like 50 Montes that's who I'd ask too. Is the last 454 in 75 true for Chevelle also?
