does anyone know the correct style muncie 4spd knob for the 73 chevelle. ive seen lots of pics and they are all slightly different.

my buddy had a 73 SS factory 4 speed, and his stock knob was the round black with white lettering. I don't know if round white, with the black lettering, was an option from the factory or not??

well the ones ive seen, the lettering some are small and close and the others are bigger and more spaced out.im gonna gamble on the bigger spaced out ones being correct.

Here's a link to a survivor car featured in super chevy. I talked to the owner once about the shift knob, I seem to remember him saying they were not round, by that I mean spherical. I think they were tapered at the bottom (threaded) end and perhaps leather or vinyl covered. If you can get in touch with him perhaps he could provide a photo.

If you blow up the interior shot it looks like a round black ball, not a tapered one that's like a 70's firebird or camaro.

well i blew it up and it does kinda look like there is a stitched line of some kind on it.make sure you keep clicking on it till it goes full screen

Yep, I see a stitch there too. Also looks like there is a plastic insert with the shift pattern on it instead of being printed on it. the plastic insert looks similar to the Trans am knob insert, but the knob does look more round than a firebird knob. They have the pontiac knob on ebay a lot.

Looks like you need this. The pattern could probably be changed but the knob itself looks correct to me. It's tapered but just barely.

on the 73 with the muncie m21 did you have to lift to hit reverse.

This is a subject up for discussion for multiple GM cars. Depending on tranny, shifters, and consoles or not there are a variety of 3 diffrent shifter balls to my knowledge. One with lift, one without, one hard plastic uncovered. Would be nice to know for future refrence. This can help splain a tiny bit...

sweet thanks for the info, fo far according to the pics thats been posted, the knob that you posted looks to be the correct one for the 73 ss chevelle. im going to be converting and im just wanting it to be true as possible.

Well from 72 to 77 I've seen that on in Novas, Chevelles, Camaros, and Monzas, so I'd say you are safe to go with it. I'd change the shift indicator to one without the "lift". Unless yours has a lift. I know lift started on 72 Camaros and 75' Novas but not sure when they stopped and early Chevelles had lift, the sticks were straight.

I really like the look of the tube ones with the lift, over the round mashed in the middle with hurst or muncie stamped on them. I've not decided on one myself yet but I'm a sucker for mopar pistol grips.
