Hydraulic clutch
Has anybody put a hydraulic clutch in a 73-77 with power brakes and swing style pedals???
If so what kit did you use and how did it go?
Theres alot of info on how to do the hydro swaps for camaros novas and second gen Chevelles but are we left in the dark to fend for ouselves? Unfortunately I am not a fabricator and mostly depend on bolt on setups with minimal welding for my car work. But I want a manual trans AND tons of room for big headers, and from what I can tell mechanical linkage can get in the way. If this is not the case please let me know so I can just order an original style mechanical setup for my car when swapping to a TKO 600.
So how about it? Whos done it? Photos? Links?
thanks Carcass

Re: Hydraulic clutch
bump to the top for interest?
I know guys are running manuals other than stock Muncies and Super T10's and hydraulic clutches frees up space and work nicely. Anybody?

Re: Hydraulic clutch
I have an original 4spd 350 SS with normal mechanical linkage. Doesnt get in the way of my headers. I'm running hookers. No part of the linkage touches anything. Dont see a problem with a big block either. The Z bar is tucked close to the firewall and under the poser booster.

Thanks for the tip! Interested in a TKO 600 swap and was thinking hydraulic could be the way to go, but if theres space for big headers around stock type mechanical linkage that could certainly simplify the instalation. Sure would like to see some pics of your headers in this area. Are they Super Comps and what size tubes did you use?

Re: Hydraulic clutch
Mine are Hooker Competitions. Not the super comps. Dont know what I'll be going with when I yank the car apart. I'll try to get some pics tomorrow.

Re: Hydraulic clutch
Hard to get in there, but here's some pics of an original setup. The chassis has been dipped in galvanized steel which made for seeing the Z bar a little easier.

Re: Hydraulic clutch
Those photos are much appreciated. Thank you Joe73. It looks like the #7 header tube dips down well before the z bar and then clears underneath by a long shot. I bet a bolt in stock style setup would be a fair bit easier than modifying a hydraulic style setup.

Re: Hydraulic clutch
I say just go with the normal stock type setup. Less headaches. As for clutches, diaphragm type are much easier for pedal pressure. My 73 came with a borg n beck style clutch with is three fingers and used for performace applications but a little heavier pedal pressure is required. The third type of clutch is a LONG style but I've only seen them used on either NOT or mopars.
