Window and door weatherstrip
Have any of you replaced the weatherstrip seals and have good luck with them? I did the drivers door on my chevelle about 5 yrs ago, and its looks worse then when I first replaced it. I used Metro Molded Rubber brand upper seals, they split at the seams, and dry rotted rather quickly. Is A&M Soffseal better?

Re: Window and door weatherstrip
I have them but not on the car yet. I bought the Metro super soft. I've read you need to condition & maintain them with a water based petroleum jelly to keep them from drying out. Just wipe a bit on now & again with a clean lint free towel. (have not tried this yet however). Mine look nice.

Re: Window and door weatherstrip
Quality can vary from batch to batch across all 3 of those manufacturers, and sometimes they need "coaxing" to fit properly, especially on the molded ends. I've never had to treat them with anything, though. My latest ones are from Metro, and they've held up pretty well without any special treatment. Maybe it has something to do with the weather in sunny AZ?

Re: Window and door weatherstrip
I've always used Armor All low gloss. Not too shiny, and seems to preserve rubber quite well.
I don't have the weather strips for my Elco project yet, so I still have to choose which brand I'll use...

Re: Window and door weatherstrip
when I helped a friend restore a 71 Chevelle convertible 10 years ago, we put vaseline on the seals to get them to take a set with the glass in place so we could roll the windows up with the doors closed.
Seems to be the answer for longevity as well.
When I get around to doing my car, they will get that same treatment.

Aerospace 303 on everything. Has UV protection and necessary chemicals to keep the parts like new. Works great on vinyl boat interiors that take a beating the sun all summer long.

Just google it. Walmarts RV section, gander mountain, boating stores. Places like that.

Re: Window and door weatherstrip
I'll have to check that out, sounds good. TY.
I would hated to have told you guys I was going to try KY Jelly (as it is proven safe for rubber).

Re: Window and door weatherstrip
Thought I'd spread the word on some original GM NOS roof rail weatherstrips I found that are still available in limited qtys online. Was hoping to avoid the hassle so many of you guys are having with aftermarket ones when I replace mine, so was doing some searching on the slim chance there might be some still sitting out there in somebody's inventory. Found two sites that still show a small inventory of GM made weatherstrips for the LH side Roof Rails on '73-'77 Chevelle/Malibu (pt# 9878789) and Monte Carlo (pt#9878787). I think the Chevelle/Malibu ones may fit some Cutlass models; as well as Century/Regal and Lemans? Both sites are pretty comparable with cost after factoring in shipping, discount codes, etc. at around $90/ea. Sure, these are considerably more expensive than aftermarket ones, but might be a small price to pay if they fit better and hold up longer. Just sayin'...

Re: Window and door weatherstrip
I just installed the Metro brand on the doors, and I used the Soffseal on the roof rail, on the Elco project. The WS I used on my Malibu about 7 years ago is in fine shape yet, and they are the A&M Soffseal brand, but like I mentioned earlier, I used the Armorall low gloss stuff on them a few years ago.
