Good call by 74chevelle. A quick way to check for vac leaks is with a propane torch (not lit of course !!). With the engine idling, run the torch around the intake & carb gasket, and around any vacuum lines from the engine. Leaks will cause idle speed to rise if they are enough to affect the engine.
Check the torque on the carb base nuts.......
As to the distributor, the Pertronics conversion kit is popular these days & works good in the old point type distributors, and you can keep the cap & plug wires like they are now.
