Re: ok a question
mount it, run wires to a switch and to the fusebox.
Or correct way would be to run to a relay but its easier the other way.

Re: ok a question
It really IS that easy
Just make sure you iwre it so it only runs when you turn the car on. I've seen so many cars dead cause someone added electric stuff and wired it straight to the battery and killing it...

Re: ok a question
so how do u know what type of fan to get? i have seen pushers and pullers, what the advantage of each of them? then there's the dual fan option, some of them are set for pusher or pullers or they can be mixed. then there's the CFM, how much is enough?

Re: ok a question
my decision was based on price and that only ....ev1 else is different opinion and as far as cfm ev1's opinion varys as well it all wilL depend on what your wanting outta your motor.

Re: ok a question
pullers are always better than pushers, get the most CFM your wallet allows and get the size you want, generally 2 medium sized would work great.

Re: ok a question
Sh!t, $40 is a good price.
So lets say i run something like Limey. Since i live in Arizona, and the temp during the summer is 115+, should i go with a dual setup?

Re: ok a question
Careful gents... You do realize you are talking about the cooling system right?
That's like buying a condom based solely on price.
Remember, your radiator and shroud do 80% of the work. Here's the only electric fan that could keep my smallblock cool with a stock size rad.
Summit SUM-320718
It mounted easilly on the support and on the top plate with the supplied bracket and could easilly be moved as close to the rad as possible to suck good clean air.
I highly recommend running a basic toggle PRE-ignition so you can keep it running after you shut the car down. When I get done cruising for a while and know I'm going to re-fire soon I run the fan for 3-4 minutes and she cools right down. It's also great for the track, or any tuning... ever get pissed off that you have to wait to pull the plugs in between runs?
Don't mind the girlfriend or the trans/oil coolers... The large aluminum plate in the middle is the top mount for the fan. THe large elec fan is 1/2in from the rad, then the trans and oil coolers are mounted clear of the blades on the back side.

Re: ok a question
you guys make this seem difficult.
here's what i did on my Monte.
i took the fan and wiring harness out of an 85 Celebrity. the harness for the fan is self contained on those cars- you get a fusible link that provides power to a relay. the relay gets power from a keyed ignition source- i used an empty "ign" slot in the fuse box. the relay is grounded thru a temp switch that screws into the intake manifold next to the thermostat housing. the stock Celeb temp switch turns on at 220 and off at 210, which is too hot. i got different switch with the same threads and wire plug at NAPA. had to look thru the book, but found one that's on at 215, off at 205. or something like that- it's been a few years since i put it in. there were some that come on as low as about 185.
the fan just bolted to the stock rad support and upper plate with the stock shroud screws in the stock shroud mounting points and drilling a couple of holes.
that setup kept it nice and cool, but i had an LT1 Caprice radiator with dual fans sitting around, so i swapped that in. it's about 2 inches wider, but it fits. for the extra fan, i added a second relay that used the same trigger wires as the other one. since the Caprice rad doesn't have a rad cap on it, i had to plumb the Caprice expansion tank into it and mount that in place of the stock overflow bottle. i tee'd into one of the heater hoses so any air would get purged thru the tank and also to allow the coolant to expand as needed.
it sounds complicated, but if you look at it, it all looks pretty stock and works perfectly. the fans only run when needed, and they aren't on when i'm going down the road.

Re: ok a question
this is my first electric fan novaderrick i just didnt realize how easy it was for this setup, would have done it alot sooner if i knew how easy it is. And the fan i went with had a external temp sensor to kick the fan on at an adjustable rate from 185 to 205.

if you've ever wired in an amplifier, you can put in an electric fan.

Re: ok a question
Someone asked me for a pic of how I rigged up my Summit elec fan a while ago... Maybe Juiced?
Anyway, I dug up some old pics from when I was installing it.
You'll have to look past the oil and trans coolers....
The fan sits very close to the rad and that's the only reason I haven't needed a shroud.
Hope it helps someone.
Here is the Summit pic of the fan. I used the 90-degree brackets that came with it, just bent them back flat.
