Can't Find Oil Leak!
Hey all,
Anyone have any experience with a leaking oil filter assembly housing? My 1973 Grand Prix 400 Engine is leaking bad........
I changed the oil last week, and since then it has continually leaked but only when running. I changed the valve cover gaskets, the Oil Sending Unit, and replaced the shitty Fram to a Wix but still I have oil leaking down onto the oil filter and running down the side. I'm at my wits end, I cannot find where it is leaking from, any thoughts?
Thanks

In this pic, it looks like the filter adapter is a separate piece. I would replace the gasket between the adapter and the block.

Re: Can't Find Oil Leak!
I had a similar problem with my 454 and here's what it boiled down too for me, hope it helps:
1st leak was from the plug in the block above the oil filter that my oil pressure gauge was plugged into (crappy brass fitting). The 2nd leak was from a bad rubber gasket/bushing in my z-bar which also screws into the block above the oil filter.
That was my experience with an oil leak in the same area for what it's worth...good luck M8.

I have to ask. Are you sure the old rubber gasket came off with the old filter?

Re: Can't Find Oil Leak!
Replaced filter twice, have had it off 3 times trying to see if the old one was there but it seems like it's gone. Tried Barrs Leak Stop and it seems to have worked. Will get under it this weekend to try and find it, trying to get the vinyl top off right now.....

Re: Can't Find Oil Leak!
I would try to clean the engine off at least near where your problem is with either steam or a degreaser.

If all else fails you could put dye in it after you clean it. That would mark it for sure.

Re: Can't Find Oil Leak!
Finally, found the culprit. The Oil Sensor was not fully tightened properly and since it was tightened this weekend, not a drop has spilled out. About time something was easy!!!!!!

Well that's good. Glad it wasn't anything else.
