Fell off the roof
I was working off a ladder onto the roof of my garage today and reached too far. Ladder started sliding and I fell on a chain link fence top half of me on one side and the bottom half of me on the other. The fence flipped me and the ladder and I hit my head on the ground and the ladder fell on top of me. No broken bones, so I did not go to the hospital. Yeh, all the aspirin I take I am bound to be bleeding internally. Lets hope for the best, eh? Too old for this stuff. JB

Re: Fell off the roof
Geez, JB...sure glad you didn't have to make a trip to the Urgent Care! That could have been much more serious. You're gonna be stiff and sore the next few days. Better plan on kickin' back and not doing much.
I had a similar mishap last December. We had gotten a ton of snow and it was drifted waist deep in the valleys of the roof. More was predicted, so thought I'd go up and shovel some off to prevent future ice dams. Was a little careless reaching out to get a shovel full and started sliding down the garage roof. Fortunately, I kept my head and just rode it down on my a##...landing on my feet. Knocked the wind out of me and badly bruised my heel, but otherwise, was okay. Had I not just shoveled a 3 ft wide path alongside the garage, I would have landed in about 4 ft of soft snow. I still haven't mentioned this to the wife as I would have never heard the end of why I shouldn't have been up on an icey roof in the first place. She would be right, of course.
Anyway, just glad you're okay, buddy! You're right...we're getting too old for that stuff!

Re: Fell off the roof
Added insult to injury with the later landing on top of you ouch. Play is safe if you feel anything strange it probly is something serious. Reminds me of my brother. Ladder slid out while he was going up and he just run/ rode up the ladder as it hit the ground. Not sure how he did it but there were witnesses to this.

Re: Fell off the roof
My daughter is a nurse and the first thing she said was "go to the emergency room". I have always been as stubborn as a mule. Right now I am so sore I barely can type this. My wife lost a kidney one time because of internal injuries, so I will keep an eye on it. What bothers me more than anything is that my next door neighbors have two dogs and when I took a shower I found dog doo in my hair where I hit head first. JB

Re: Fell off the roof
I did something like that last year. We were taking a 20 foot lighting truss off the stands and I was on a ladder to reach my end which we still 8 feet off the ground. The ladder was too close to the left side for me to maneuver the truss, and when I leaned to the right, the ladder went to the left and down I went with the truss right over me. Luckily when I hit the ground, I had the clarity to push as hard as I could and throw the truss away from me. Bar full of people as witnesses... one came over and asked if I needed help. Little late for that... truss is obviously down already!

My great uncle got on his roof in a hurricane, and lost almost all of his hearing. 100% deaf in his right, and has less than half in the left.

Re: Fell off the roof
I feel a little better now, sore all over, but I wont consider myself out of the woods until tomorrow. I am watching symtoms closely. Funny thing, usually I stay sleepy all the time because of all the medicine I take, but since yesterday I have been wired up and had a hard time falling asleep last night. JB

Sorry to hear of the fall, The older you get, the less gracefull the fall, the landings are always ugly and painfull. Yes I know how it feels, Get well soon, Ron

Only about 10 feet up, but when you are in your 70s 3 feet is a long fall. Feeling better all the time, but wont be out of the woods until tomorrow. JB77mali wrote:Glad U R feeling better JB! How high up were U?

Re: Fell off the roof
Yes, I have that 400. I was planning on putting it into my junker 78 Elky, but everytime I think my health is better my wallet gets thinner and vise versa. The 78 Elky is for sale the way it sits for $1,000. My 74 Elky is just now showing 48,000 miles on the body. I told Limey to come down and take a fast ride thru Irquois Park with me driving, but he was scared to, just kidding. I feel pretty good tonigfht, went out and squirted some weed killer around the estate tonight. JB77mali wrote:JB
