Re: tires
Looks like those tires have a tread wear of 440 and are a 50,000 mile tire. They are a hard compound tire, they'll last at least 30,000 miles IF you rotate them religiously and keep them inflated to the proper air pressure. You won't be able to
Rotate the tires you chose cause of the different front and rear sizes. Your alignment better be great.... But they'll still wear. However, they'll crap out from sitting stagnant during a couple winters.
If you want to get the most life out of a set of tires get all four the same size so you can rotate them.

Re: tires
What about the same size, but this tire? They are a couple dollars higher.
Mastercraft Avenger G/T Tires 39713 I wanted to do all the same size, but I want to drop that nose a bit more, so taller rear tires are the compromise.

Re: tires
That is a weird combo of tire sizes. Those are going to be about the same width, but the 70 series will have a taller sidewall. Is that the look you are after? Btw I've heard alot of people like Cooper cobras. Never mind now I know what you are after.

Re: tires
I just want to drop the nose a bit. Just trying to find out which would be the better tire. Do you think I should go narrower on the front?

Re: tires
If you are going to get mismatched sizes..that you can't rotate.. I would. But its a matter of preference (I prefer more of drag car look). I would probably go 215/70/15 fronts with your 255/70/15 rears. Note the fronts will be lower profile since the 70 means 70% of the tread width, therefore 70% of a 215 will be lower than 70% of a 255.

Re: tires
Do you think it would still stick in the curves well with a more narrow tire like that?

Re: tires
A "drag car" does one thing really well... Go fast straight. So your answer is no, that's too narrow of a tire for what you are wanting your car to do

Re: tires
So 245/60R15s in front or 235 something? My head is starting to hurt... ugh... lol

Re: tires
The first number is tread width (in millimeters) The second is aspect ratio (side wall height) ie 70% of treadwidth. And finally third number is wheel diameter. Easy.

Re: tires
Only you can make that choice based on what you want it to look like. Your original choice would work fine for what you want. Just remember, rotating tires is a good thing.

Re: tires
Agree... Precisely. If you want to take corners fast and you don't care if you have to buy tires again in 5 years... Then your first choice is the right choice.

Re: tires
Sounds awesome, that should lower the front of you car a little more, and you'll be able to handle some corners better!

Re: tires
Heres what i would do now. If you have another car to drive, take your wheels in and have the tires removed, and then have the wheels sandblasted. It should cost no more than $50.00. When you get them back they will be clean and ready for paint (or powdercoat) They will look really nice for minimal effort. If you do this make sure you use a good self etch primer to prevent rust. I like duplicolor.

Re: tires
I spent hours when I changed tires in 2004 with a grinder and wire brush cleaning up the wheels. They were really nice when I did them back then. I may have to do that again. The tires were more than I could afford anyway. But I was afraid that the front ones were gonna go at any time. Thanks for the tips!

Re: tires
Tires came in Friday and instead of doing it all myself I decided to take it to the shop that put on my exhaust tips. Tires looked good gave it kind of a drag car look. Had a problem though. The guy that mounted them didn't check the clearance on the tips they put on. The right rear tire, got chewed up a bit. I had to have them cut, bend and re-weld the tip back on. They even charged me for that. Not happy with them and will not go back. If they would have welded the tip up the right way the first time that would not have happened. New tire damage... I don't think the integrity of the tire is hurt, just a little tread worn off.

Re: tires
Honestly I don't think it really is their fault, here's why. When you have a custom exhaust made the fabricator uses the available space for what you request. The problem occurred when you decided to add bigger tires, there was room with the old tires. If a customer brings there own tires (my shop) really doesn't give a thought as to weather or not they will clear...after all it's not our problem. Not trying to be a A$$ hole, it does suck your new tire got damaged, but when you stray from stock these things happen if your not carefull.

Re: tires
I was kinda thinking along the same lines -- once you start upgrading and changing stuff, you find things that are now in the way that weren't before. It's the nature of the beast when you're car crafting.

Re: tires
Yeah. I understand what you mean. Maybe I just wanted someone to blame. I had not even thought about it hitting the exhaust tips. I checked for clearance on everything else. I was angry about what happened, but not at them at first. It was just the way they handled the situation. A bit rude about it. I guess I just need to drop it or just be mad at myself. I should have checked it further before I started out.
On a good note, love the tires! Check it out.
Here is the rear tire!
Here is the front tire!
The stance is better, but still gives it more of drag car look.
Here is me and my little helper! Getting the old girl and her new shoes ready for the show!
