Quad to dual headlights
Quick question.
I've been eyeballing a 77 Malibu Wagon on Craigslist, but don't care much for the quad headlights. What parts would I have to swap out to go to duals?
Thanks!

Re: Quad to dual headlights
Mostly just the headlight castings and the buckets to hold the lamps I believe, plus the bezels.
I hope to do the same thing at some point in the future. Others here may have more detailed info on the parts .

Re: Quad to dual headlights
There was a pretty good writeup on that subject not too long ago on this site. Well, I THINK it was this site. Either this one or CT. JB

Re: Quad to dual headlights
I believe your are right on, Pila! I pulled a pair of single headlight buckets off a base '76 Malibu for Brandon (member on this site) for his conversion. Don't forget the underhood wiring harness, too. Possibly the corner bumper fillers...can't remember if that was actually necessary as I just sent them along at the time, just in case.

Re: Quad to dual headlights
I'll eventually come across the driver's side casting, and go from there, since I have the pass. side. Not ready for that part of the job yet anyway.........

Re: Quad to dual headlights
I actually tried searching for that driver side casting last week when the weather temporarily turned warmer. Still too much snow to trek back where the El Caminos are sitting, though. I'm hoping within the next week or two I'll be able to make it back in there and I'll let you know what I find.

Re: Quad to dual headlights
Headlight bezels, fender extensions (or headlight housing, same thing different name), wiring harness from firewall forward. I can double check both of my cars to see if the radiator support is different.
As many single to dual conversions as I have seen roaming around, I would assume it's an easy swap. I feel your disgust for the quad headlights.

Re: Quad to dual headlights
I looked at my parts catalog to see if the core supports were different. They are the same according to the catalog, at least '75 thru '77 are the same. p/n 377041. The '74 is a different number, 359915, but I'll bet it would fit. Some subtle changes likely, like horn mounts etc maybe, from '74 to the later ones.

Re: Quad to dual headlights
The quads kind of grew on me, too. I probably wouldn't have sought out my Monte with the quads...but, it just sort of fell into my lap and I just couldn't pass it up! I'm good with them, now.
