fuel gauge malfunction?
The fuel gauge went suddenly dead and the needle froze at the 3/4 mark. A check of the wiring doesn't indicate a sending cable or grounding issue. I assume the fuel gauge is malfunctioning. Unfortunately, Eckler's replacement fuel gauge is out of stock and they seem to be the only one who carried it. Does anyone know who made the Eckler gauge? Can the gauge be rebuilt or do they have to be replaced?

Re: fuel gauge malfunction?
Thanks Limey for your quick response. Yes please let me know as even a stopgap would give me more time to look for a repro if one exists.

Re: fuel gauge malfunction?
Thanks for the link. I now suspect it is the PCB malfunctioning so I ordered one and will see what happens. But thanks again as it is useful.

Re: fuel gauge malfunction?
It's very rare to have a fuel gauge go bad. I think your guess at the flexible printed circuit board could be your primary suspect. I use a pencil erasure to clean the contact points if they are oxidized. Works really well but be careful not to damage the circuit board. They break and separate very easily. To test your fuel gauge just put 12 volts to the positive prong and ground the negative prong and you should get your gauge needle to point to "E". Reverse the polarity and then it should read past "F". Hope this helps.

Re: fuel gauge malfunction?
Well, it was the printed circuit board. Thankfully the correct PCB has been reproed and seems of decent quality. Fuel gauge working again as well as Oil idiot light. Thanks to Limey I have a working spare fuel gauge against the day .... Thanks to all commenters.
