Rebuilding 76 Sprint Dome Lamp Harness...ANYBODY HAVE THESE TERMINALS?
The dome lamp harness in my '76 GMC Sprint has been splice repaired multiple times, become unreliable again, and I have elected to totally replace it. I sourced a new reproduction lamp assembly with pigtails, and also got some new white 18ga primary wire to run down to the connection on the driver's side floor.
Attached are pics of the GM PACK-CON II connector body and two terminals that go into it. I have not been able to find these terminals ANYWHERE and also cannot locate a part # for them, despite having the GM parts book for 71-77 Sprint. I ordered in some similar terminals at the local parts store, but they will not retain properly in the connector body.
Does anybody have any leads on where to source these terminals? Any help would be appreciated....as I'm running out of steam on this.

Hey. I completely re-wired my Laguna a few years ago. In the morning I will go to my storage house and see if I can find something that looks like that. I also have some pieces left over from my Painless kit. They might have one of those connectors in there. I will let you know by later tomorrow.

May want to look into Mouser.com and search in the automotive terminals section if you know the part number of that particular terminal.
Otherwise you will have to seek by picture......and that could take a considerable amount of time.

Re: Rebuilding 76 Sprint Dome Lamp Harness...ANYBODY HAVE THESE TERMINALS?
I just went through Mouser.com, and also went to the Aptiv (formerly Delphi) catalog of terminals. These were the most extensive listings I have seen so far.
However, there seems to be a lack of availability for the PACK-CON II terminals. PACK-CON I & III are available. The only thing Mouser listed for II was the plastic connector body.

Re: Rebuilding 76 Sprint Dome Lamp Harness...ANYBODY HAVE THESE TERMINALS?
I believe this plug uses the same type terminal that is in your dome light harness. You could de-pin these and pop them into your original plug housing.

This also may work with a little modification.

Third time is a charm. This one looks to be correct.

Re: Rebuilding 76 Sprint Dome Lamp Harness...ANYBODY HAVE THESE TERMINALS?
The last post is as close as I've come...terminals are very similar to the defunct Dorman ones I saw in a paper catalog at O'Reilly yesterday. Problems are that they're 16-14ga instead of 18ga, and I'm not even sure I can source them anymore from the looks of it.
I could always step up my harness gauge to 16 and hopefully use my heat shrink bullet connectors to drop back to 18 for the lamp side pigtails. Gotta dig some more....
Thanks fellas.

Yeah, that's the PACK-CON I terminal....ordered some locally and found out that they don't retain in the connector body properly.

Figures....and those looked to be an almost exact replacement. Maybe you could use a different design plug and create a new harness from terminals like these?

I really don't want to cut/alter the car side harness....gotta keep looking.

Not sure if this would work. It appears to have a different plug/terminal housing but you may be able to de-pin it and use your original.

Looks like the Malibu applications had a different style of connector.....although I wish I could look at one of those to see exactly what they did.

Re: Rebuilding 76 Sprint Dome Lamp Harness...ANYBODY HAVE THESE TERMINALS?
Sorry but the listing was unclear what version it was. I guess you are going to need to find people who tear down gmc sprints for parts. what is the reason the Pack Con I terminal doesn't stay in the connector? Can they be flared a bit?
I did find this at delmar wire:

Thanks man, I'll call Delmar Wire on Monday....hopefully they still offer the part # 18-43 or 18-44.
Finding a clean lamp harness in a parts car is unlikely these days...as the very few of these things still hanging around in yards are roached and picked over.
The PACK-CON I terminals have shorter "wings" at the rear that won't engage the connector body to keep the wire from pushing out the front of it, and the unequal length retention tangs at the front don't lock particularly well.

Re: Rebuilding 76 Sprint Dome Lamp Harness...ANYBODY HAVE THESE TERMINALS?
The cars have a different connector to the car side harness...though I'm not sure about the terminals themselves. I'm also not sure about the overall length. I've already purchased a new reproduction (rectangular) lamp assembly w/ pigtails, so I'm kind of invested in that. If I run into another dead end with this latest terminal supplier I may give you a shout.
Thank you sir.

Ok just offered it if your not gonna take I will put in SE as it's wiring has been cobbled and this is 100% complete so probably where it will go it was from a 76 Malibu Classic so I'm sure will be same as What I need

Re: Rebuilding 76 Sprint Dome Lamp Harness...ANYBODY HAVE THESE TERMINALS?
Just a thought, my 2-cents so to speak…
Was your car built/assembled in a plant that built trucks? Using my Monte Carlo as an example, the plant my car was assembled at also assembled trucks. The significance of this is my AC/heater blower motor specs out for C10 pickups. Over the last 40-years, I found a few other odd peculiarities but my point is are you absolutely certain the harness in your car is for a 1976 Sprint?
Do you ever intend to disassemble the connector once you've completed the repair job? If not, other than the repro terminal not staying in place, if it otherwise fits as it should and electrical connection is properly established, you could pot the terminal into place in the connector with epoxy.

Re: Rebuilding 76 Sprint Dome Lamp Harness...ANYBODY HAVE THESE TERMINALS?
Terminals are ON ORDER from Delmar Wire in CA....thanks to 76Chevelle2Tone for the lead. I also got a bag of the male side just in case. These are in fact discontinued, but he has a substantial back stock. So if anyone else needs the PACK-CON II, that's where to get them.
