4 speed questions // pictures?
I'm in the process of doing a manual transmission swap in my 1973 El Camino and I have some questions.
- Is the pedal hanger bracket up under the dash the same on both automatic and manual transmission?
- Can anyone please post some detail information of the whole 4 speed pedal assembly with the hanger braket and a picture of where the clutch rod goes trough the fire wall?
I will be doing this conversion with a Tremec TKO 600 5 speed transmission and a hydraulic release bearing so I do not need fiddle around with the whole OE mechanical clutch linkage but pictures of the OE set up would be a great help anyway.

Re: 4 speed questions // pictures?
All you need is a longer bolt, the clutch pedal bolts to the outside of the bracket.

Re: 4 speed questions // pictures?
The clutch push rod comes through the firewall below the throttle cable eixt. Its marked on the firewall. Since you are doing a conversion, keep the hole you drill small and use a 70-81 camaro bellows boot. A stock 73-74 boot is unavailable and has a much larger bolt spacing than the camaros. Much easier to access for drilling if you remove the drivers fender well.

What od ratio are you going with? .82 or .64.

No of in mine. I have the factory 4 speed. All saginaws, muncies, turbo 350 and 400 are all 1:1 final ratio. A 700r4 is .70 final of remember correctly for comparison.

Sorry joe, I should clarified. I am running a Muncie as well but I’m looking at going to an OD manual soon. I was asking Erik to see what OD ratio he was going for because the .64 is really steep.

Re: 4 speed questions // pictures?
I used this website calculator to figure out some differences. Looks like having a 5 speed vs. a 4 speed AUTO would lower your final rpm by about 200 rpm. Not much of a difference at all. I'd just like to see that your final rpm is somewhat within the engines built power band so it doesnt lug.

That is the rpm calculator I found to be most accurate.
