Re: Chrome...Chrome and more Chrome
Chroming is pretty expensive these days. I had some small bracket pieces chromed a while back and they cost me $350.00, so I can only imagine what you paid...

After I broke down the invoice, I calculated the pair of grille inserts for my Laguna to cost about $900. Bumpers were about $800 each. Thank you EPA!

Ok...not as bad as I had thought on the bumpers....actually ...I thought 1200.00 was the going rate.
I had my rear ( taillight bezels only) done 3 years ago....400.00

If you Think crome is expensive in your part of the World, you should try and get a bumper cromed here in Denmark. If you can find someone that can and will do it a bumper is at least 2500 dollars a piece depending on how Big it is. Doing crome on a 50s chevy is going to run you 30-40 large ones here.Â

Re: Chrome...Chrome and more Chrome
I know of a good chrome shop here in MN...but, word is their turn-around time is like 6-9 mos on bumpers.
If I may ask, what did those headlight bezels run you? I've seen NOS for $450/PR and am now thinking that probably wasn't out of line compared to re-chroming.

The cost on the headlight bezels was $350. And I think the quality is superior than anything GM did back in that era. So $450 for a set of NOS bezels seems a little high.

Re: Chrome...Chrome and more Chrome
Did they have any repair work to do? Since some of those parts are just pot metal, they pit easily and would need those filled prior to chroming. If they had to do that, the price tag starts to make a lot of sense.

Yes, like most, they were badly pitted. So they did a lot of filler work on these.

Don't suppose you'd care to share the name of the shop? Good chrome shops seem to be hard to find from reading posts on various forums.

I've got a friend that needs some Caddy parts done. Would you have the name of the shop?

Re: Chrome...Chrome and more Chrome
The name of the chrome shop is Superior Chrome Plating here in Houston. One of my good friends had his 55 Chevy chrome pieces done by them about 5 years ago and they still look better than new. His dad has known this chrome guy for about 30 years and they have used them for many car projects and have always been happy with the results. They prefer to work on parts from 50's, 60's and 70's era vehicles. Below is the link.

Thanks for sharing. Curious how did the chrome lay down on the egg crate grille?

It definitely looks better than the original GM plating. When I get back in town next week I'll run over to my shop and get some close-up pics and post them.
