30 spline carrier
Anyone ever run across a 30-spline axle carrier for our cars?

Sure, others will chime in. B Body caprice has it and it will bolt right in. Just have to get the right axles and correct bolt pattern or redrill the pattern.

Re: 30 spline carrier
Buy a set of moser replacement 30 spline axles and keep the stock bolt pattern. Moser part A103012

Re: 30 spline carrier
I tore down my original rear that was in the car. it's a bolt in axle type. 28-spline. Deciding whether to get a aftermarket 30 spline carrier or re-use my 28-spline that is in the car now.
Either way I plan on an axle upgrade. I checked with strange and they will have to make axles for the bolt in type. I checked moser's web-site and they don't have the bolt in type either.
The "C" clip rear in the car now is a disaster waiting to happen with drag radials.

Re: 30 spline carrier
89-90 ONLY caprice with the 8.5 will have 5x4.75 bolt pattern and 30 spline axles. Â Or use the ones that are there and spend $110 on the rottenleonard.com redrilling kit. Â I may have a set ready in a few weeks if you wanna buy 'em. Â Ha. Â But the carrier, yes, any 8.5 from 77-96 B-body should have 30 spline axles. Â I know 90 and up with 5x5 bolt pattern 8.5s all have 30 spline.

I have a couple roadmasters to check out in the pull a part. I'll look for the G80 code on the ID sticker.

Re: 30 spline carrier
Be aware that the posi that comes in those is a cone type and not rebuildable.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm not familiar with the cone type. The one thats in my car now has the "S" type spring. Is that a cone type?

Re: 30 spline carrier
Posi carriers can have both types of springs. I think that you are more likely going to be able to see the clutch pack versus the cone clutch being hidden.

Re: 30 spline carrier
Btw, I have seen a video of someone rebuilding a cone clutch carrier by basically resurfacing the carrier and adding shims so the springs maintain their pressure. I'm not recommending it, but where there is a will there is a way.
