74-77 bumper shocks
Anyone know if all four years of bumper pistons interchange across all 74-77 A body cars (am excluding wagons and el caminos)? I know 73's did not use them in the back. Have a customer wanting bumper shocks for a 75 Olds Cutlass. Possess a set of four from a 74 Chevelle coupe. Direct interchange for this customer? Thanks in advance, Dave dona ana NM

Re: 74-77 bumper shocks
Looks like rears interchange...fronts do not according to The Hollander Interchange manual:
'74 Chevelle Front interchanges with '74 Sprint/El Camino, '76/'77 Century, '74/'75 Century (Notchback)
'74 Chevelle Rear interchanges with '74/'75 Cutlass; among others.

Re: 74-77 bumper shocks
Hollander shows separate part numbers for both '73 & '74 Cutlass (fronts), also.
I didn't realize there were so many variations of these...

76-77 front bumper shock
Hi,
Does anyone have a still intact chevy front bumper shock energy absorber. The part number is 22002448 and applies to both 76 and 77 Malibus. Not sure if other 76-77 A bodies have the same part number. The bumper shocks are model specific to some extent for reasons I don't understand.

Do you need them to still function/collapse, or just hold the bumper in place?
If they are just holding the bumper on you can replace the tube portion with round pipe of the same length.

Hi thanks for your reply. One front bumper shock is functional, one is not. The non functional one was damaged several years ago when a light truck backed into me and clipped the corner of the bumper. The body shop repaired it so that the bumper is level and no sign of damage.I was able to find bumper filler for the corner unit fortunately as that was cracked. However the bumper absorber had the gas expelled from it so it is not functional.

I had a classified thread that MCarlo responded to as he saw one on Ebay that somehow didn't come up in my searches. I bought it an hour ago. Still looking for sedan base model door panels as per the classified thread. Thanks very much for responding here. Sorry but not on Facebook. All the best.

76chevelle2tone, nice score on the eBay bumper shock! I’ve been meaning to ask for awhile, how is you car painted. Is the top the second color like a vinyl top?

hello 77camino
If you go to page 18 (last page) of the Introduce Yourself thread you will see a posted picture of a coupe (76anotherdaychevelle) that is painted just as my sedan is. The body color is Medium Saddle and the roof (really above the beltline) is painted Cream which is listed as color #50. Apparently this was a fairly popular combo for the 2 tones that year.
