Still gettin' some love
In my house, we have been getting the old cars out to cruise in more often this fall. It seems like no matter where we go, somebody has to compliment, stare, rubberneck, and even challenge. Just last night, we decided to take both of them to a family get together. When we left, I went straight home and my daughter and wife went to McD's.
I was behind a 2011-14 Charger RT for a bit, and this driver was going a bit slow for my liking so I move to the inside lane to pass. In my mirror, I could see the Charger goose his car to catch up to my car. He stayed on my bumper for a bit seemingly to check the car out. Eventually he slowed and gave me room to move back into the right lane. He followed me through a right hand turn then moved to the inside lane. When I slowed to make my turn, he of course gassed his car as he went by.
My daughter had a better story upon her return from the drive through. While waiting in line, two people from separate cars ahead of her got out and came back to her and asked if they could take pictures of her car! Of course she accommodated them so she had people on both sides of her car photographing it with their phones.
There is nothing special about either one of them. They photograph well, but they definitely aren't perfect. Anyone have stories about encounters like this recently? I would like to read about the attention this generation is getting.

Cool story. Feels good when people compliment your car especially after all the time and effort in it.

Have a lot of stories about my 76 S3. This one stands out the most. It was 10 years ago, I was getting my wife's ultrasound pics developed at a local Rite Aid, it's about two miles from home, I took the Laguna out, and drove down. As I was finishing up and getting ready to get into the car, two guys pull up in a ford ranger. They park in the lot and one guy gets out and approaches me. I was a little un nerved at fist. He came up to me and told me how great the car looked, and that he had one in high school but it was burgundy with a white interior. He asked about the swivels. I showed him how they worked. I asked him if he was in a hurry he said no, I said hey in we'll go for a ride, he just about passed out with excitement. His eyes got huge. We rumbled out of the parking lot and turned onto hwy 65. I let the car rip and it barked as the trans shifted thru ever gear. He turned white, and I could see him clutching onto the arm rest on the door panel. He said his had no where near the power that this one had. We took the exit and I turned around to head back, we slid sideways as the tires gained some traction, it barked into second leaving a patch of rubber on the hwy, as the trans shifted into third there was a loud bang, sounded like someone hit the underside of the car with a sledge hammer, a plume of white smoke bellowed from under the car, we went sideways a little but I straightened it out. Slid on the trans fluid, from the teams exploding. Cracked the bell housing. We coasted to the side of the road . He looked at me and with a few expletives said how awesome that ride was. We got out and started to foot it back to the rite aid, about 100 feet down the road a local cop was nice evough to pick us up and ride us the rest of the way to where his buddy was waiting. They drove me home he gave me his number, if I ever wanted to sell the car. He kept telling me how it was the most fun he's ever had driving around. Sonething we'll both probably always remember.

I always have someone swerving alongside of me asking if I would like to sell it. I kinda worry someone is gonna hit me.

I can't wait to get mine on the street again. Even though it's original and plenty of patina I'm sure some of the older crowd will notice it. They noticed my old Bel Air but it was kinda hard not to.

I want to get a 65 or 66 Belair or Biscayne and build it like a old S/S car. I even have a big block for it already.

Re: Still gettin' some love
The other day some old lady in a little toyota ( you now tha size that you Pick out of your chevys grill from time to time.) anyway she parked next to my chevelle in front of the local store, she was O large she could hardly get out of that little thing. As she tryed to get out i was watching her so she wouldent bang her door in the side of my car, so she was really annoyed when she made it out. She had a lot of comments about why some guys drive Big cars, and we exchanged some words. I took of and could not help it, so i lit the tires up and left the store and the lady in a cloud of smoke.
2 days later i went back to get groceries and the store manager reconised me, he Said it was the coolest thing he ever saw, but i had to promise not to do it again as the fire alarm in the entrance had gone of from my smoke. I usually dont let people get to me, but she hit a nerve and i could feel the horns growing out of my forehead.

I kind a hope it happens again, so i can have a reason to lite them up again. We have alot of defenders of the inviroment here, they drive hybrid Toyotas and Think i care when they tell me im Wrong for using alot of fuel for the fun of it. But mostly people gives the thumps up or tell me its Nice.

Very odd. Here most likely if you came at someone like that you would get a F- off!

Re: Still gettin' some love
The weekend we took the 74 to a local 1/8 mile drag race event, I was watching my daughter race and at least a couple times heard other spectators/racers make "that's a nice Chevelle" comment. I didn't know these guys from Adam, but it was nice to hear them call it a Chevelle instead of a Malibu. It's just a thing in my mind that tells me this body style is becoming more accepted as a legit performance platform.

My boys were pissed when they heard I sold it. But neither one have got a place or garage of their own to keep it in. I just grew tired of seeing it sit in my garage collecting dust. Sold it to a guy I know and he pretty much uses it as a daily driver. So at least it's getting used now. I love those cars as much or more than my Monte Carlo. But I hope more people will get into the mid 70's fullsize cars. There are some really nice cars on this site. I wish I would see some more at car shows or just on the road again. Even rat rod versions like mine. Hope you find your Bel Air or Biscayne. I'm not seeing many of them anymore either. I have only seen a handful of the 67 in all the years I owned mine. A guy has one here that is a three on the tree 6cyl original. He was offered something like 8K for it and turned it down.
I was in Jr. High. There was a kid a couple years older than me that went to church where I did. He had a burgundy 73 Monte. I remember him doing a little burn out by the school one day thought that was pretty cool. I don't remember why but he was by the Jr. High one day after school and I was going up town and he offered to take me the 4 or 5 blocks to drop me off. That car was so plush to me. Our family cars had vinyl seats. So this thing was like a Caddy to me and the sound of the old Rochester 4 barrel was cool too. I think that's when I started liking the mid 70's Monte's. He had the car through high school, and he married a girl in my grade. I think the Utah salted roads finally got to it along with kids and he got rid of it.

Re: Still gettin' some love
I actually come across a Biscayne from time to time and talk myself out of it. The right one will come along I'm sure. The tendency those cars have to rot out the cowl is what scares me to buy one sight unseen. As far as the Montes, we had one as a family car when I was a kid my dad bought it new then bought me that 77 in my avatar as a birthday present 26 years ago. Still got it.

Re: Still gettin' some love
The most questions I get is "what are doing down there" when putting in fuel. They don't remember that days when fuel tank fills where in the back of the car. Then they ask me "what is that a charger?" Then they all ask "What color is that?"
and I reply Candy Apple red. next is who painted it? When I say I did they never believe me. I do love the guys that say that doesn't sound like a 350 as the emblems are still on fender that say 350.
I have also had the tailgater or the guy next to me with some Jap tall wing thing trying to race me. I usually just ignore them but when I get a chance to find a nice turn lane and they are right next to me I punch it and whip a U-turn smoking the heck out of it. The look on there faces is priceless.
