Seriously thinking about getting into pro-touring/autocross racing. I found a car that would be perfect but the Malibu would have to go. Take a look at the pics, let me know what you all think it is worth. I'm thinking about putting it back on ebay where I got it from but I'm sure the big wheel crowd in Atlanta may be drawn to it. No longer has the sawblades. It is on the vette wheels as pictured wrapped in 255/60/15 coopers. The trunk lid has clear lifting so it will need a repaint, needs headliner, few bubbles under the roof, needs package tray, has aftermarket gauges now, new carpet, fresh tune up, 350 2bbl, new 350 trans, will come with double hump crossmember, front bumper sink in brackets and a extra coolant overflow jug. Oh, I removed the old window tint that was turning purple. Has a dead spot on quick acceleration but real smooth under normal driving but I doubt anyone would leave that 2bbl set up. Bumper guards front and rear are removed and the front licesnse plate holder was removed but will go with the car.

Beautiful car. Why not put some money into suspension and run it autocross?

As far as value, you don't mention the odometer reading, which might matter to some buyers. Is the paint original? And considering who you might be selling to, the headliner is not particularly expensive to replace.

I also cant see why it should be impossible to autocross it. Alot of other chevelles are used. I know it is a little bigger than the 2 gen, but with a clever suspension upgrade and mods, and maybe some weight shaving here and there im sure it would be just as food as a 2 gen. Nice car by the way

The car was painted in '07 and it's got 110k on it. The biggest thing size and their are a ton more parts options for Camaro/Nova/Trans Ams. I may just finish up the tail panel project and put it up and spend the money I would have on this and put it into something else for road course and autocross racing. I'd need to get $6500 and looking around and the market is not there.

You could put it up for 7 on Hemmings, Autotrader, etc, and maybe luck into someone who had one as a kid. You'd want to do the headliner and anything else obvious on the interior. It might take a year, but you could probably get it.

I know I'm stubborn, but it seems more fun to me to work with something that not everyone has, that DOESN'T have the aftermarket parts available, that doesn't have the blueprints for success already laid out on the table for you. The real question is Would it be fun to drive on the autocross course? Maybe you would prefer a stick shift, but other than that, I bet it could be pretty fun.

Just fyi, most of the front suspension parts (spindle, control arms, etc) on the G3s are the same as the 2nd gen F-body parts.

I haven't read the entire thing yet, but I sure will soon. This might give you and others ideas on how to make our "boats" handle like a speed boat and not a yacht.  lol!

Damon, that is one fine ride and it would be a shame to get rid of it and regret it down the road.

Interesting article. No wonder the impala ss springs fit right in like they were meant to. It's all still up in the air. It would just be easier to build a fbody than try to piece together stuff for this big lug. But, I like my big lug so I may just not worry about it for right now and just get all the fiddly things taken care of and then start looking at front end kits. I found a Q1A set up for the car on ebay. I don't know if it is $565 for one coil over or for the pair. But that would be a start.

I just got done reading it myself. I am wanting to get rid of the big marsh mellow ride too. I'm going to start looking around for some used F-body and B-body sway bars. You see, I work for one of, if not the largest salvage yard companies in the country. Somewhere there should be some of these parts. lol

Surely you've seen this video Damon.

Great video. And also good to know that fasurner works for a salvage co. One never knows what part one will need next.

I put a rear swaybar and front lowering springs and gas shocks in mine, and already it is much more stabil and corners alot better. It is by no means ready for racing but a little goes a long Way. I also removed the bumper bars for weight saving, and im thinking about removing the door beams also. Im sure that with a little more work i could become competative so i would not leave it out. Also alot of fiberglass parts are availeble for our cars. That would be an enormous weight saver. So stay at it and be proud of our boat.

There was a guy on here I think from Norway that used to race the hell out of his. I used to see him on other forums as well. He had every trick in the book done. The car was Blue or Grey.

Funny thing is I watched that video on the bank robber special and immediately went to ebay, craigslist and some forums to start looking for what I bought. I wish I was around earlier to take a shot at owning that PHR Laguna that was built cause it was up for sale. Don't know where it went but that was a lot of work done. I had a guy tell me he'd go $5k for it but that is just not enough. I know I paid on the high end for what it's worth but I never figured I'd want to get into autocross or scca solo racing. Maybe I need to lose about 100lbs and buy a Miata LOL.

How about a Fiero with either a nice small block in it, or a supercharged 3800?

That would be a cool car. I saw a couple on powertour this year both with LS motors. I could only imagine. At this point I may just throw parts at this car and see where it goes. I have a father/son project, '76 Celica coupe and we are going to build it to do scca solo racing and some autocross. Maybe my son will let me have a go at it when we get it going. I've been looking around and it seems that ZL1 Camaro's are coming down in price and those early ones are pretty good handlers. I could drive it everyday if I wanted too. I would just have to put money into the excursion to keep it going. I don't know, maybe I jumped the gun after going to that event last weekend.
