Part interchangeability - Malibu/Nova/Camaro
I converted my car to single round headlights and one of the headlight retaining rings broke. I fixed it, but it broke again and I need to find a replacement. Searching eBay this auction came up:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Headlamp-Retaining-Rings-w-screws-Chevrolet-Pontiac-Olds-head-lamp-headlight-/271905996875?fits=Year%3A1979%7CModel%3ACamaro&hash=item3f4edc404b:g:NmUAAOSwyQtVgx~Q&vxp=mtr
It shows that these rings are interchangeable with 1975-81 Camaros and 1975-1978 Novas? Is this true? Anyone have an old parts catalog that can confirm part numbers?
Also, are the headlight buckets on the left and right side identical? When I went to install my right side headlight it didn't want to site in the bucket correctly unless the headlight was upside down?

You're correct about the left and right side specific buckets, the left side is orientated such a way to access the headlight aiming screws that correspond to the headlight bezel. The rings are interchangeable between left and right.

As near as I can tell, you need GM part# 5964574 (check out the price of NOS! ). It fits a wide range of vehicles from '73 up. Beware though...I've read where the repros have weak tabs where the screws go thru. If you feel compelled to spend $61 on a pair of these, I'd gladly get you a set of originals from the yard...lol! They are sitting out there by the hundreds. If you really only need one, we can do that, too.

I meant the actual steel buckets that hold the light bulbs. I removed them and later reinstalled after they were blasted and painted. I oriented both so that the headlight aiming screws work, but like I said the bulb on the right side doesn't seem to want to sit in there unless it's upside down?

I didn't want to spend $61, which is why I was asking about part interchangability. I figured it might be easier to find a Nova or Camaro part vs a G3. That said, I am very interested if you can get some used ones for a good price. That would be very appreciated. I'd probably only need two, one to fix the broken one, and one spare. You can PM me with the price and details.
