Engine vacuum
Hello I have a question about one thing, it's circled red and I guess it is a vacuum tank.
I wonder for what this tank is used in stock vacuum system and do I need it now. When I bought the car my vacuum system was routed like this - power booster line in carb, th350 line with T-fitting to carb and to these strange round tank. Only one port was used in tank.
Now I have new 383 engine with edelbrock carb and stock th350. I will connect power booster to carb and th350 line to carb. Do I need this vacuum tank in the system?

That is a vacuum reserve canister used on a/c cars to assist in operating the dash heating and a/c controls.

Thank you for the info.. My A/c was shutted off and now I will not have it anymore.
Do I need this canister for heater flaps normal operating?
Hmm, and where does the main vacuum line to heater run? It seems I didn't have it at all...

Yes you will need it for the vent doors. Someone will post up as to where it gets vacuum from. The non a/c cars are cable actuated.

I started to sort out things with my lost vacuum pipes and realize that my 74 connector has 8 pipes instead of 7 as on the pic. And I don't have brown pipe with tee to water valve at all.
AC is deleted on car now.
I have 3 pipes running outside of the interior, I guess 1 for vacuum ball, 1 for vacuum ball with tee to carb and one more free, that may be went to water gauge. Ofcoarse I don't know which is for what=)
May be anybody have earlier 73-75 diagrams on photo?

Demid...I think this information will clear up the mystery of your eighth vacuum tube. I have a '74/'75 temp control A$$'y and compared it to the schematic shown here in this thread for '76/'77. The only difference is that the Green/Black tube with the tee for the Brown tube running out to the water valve is non-existent. Instead, they added a Brown tube from the plug connector (your eighth tube) that runs out to the water valve. In place of the Green/Black tube, they ran the Orange/Black tube from the plug. Otherwise, everything is the same as with '76/'77. Now...keep in mind the Brown hose is more of a Caramel color. Here are a couple pics to show all eight tubes:

So if I shut down the AC and have no water valve now I need to plug this brown tube to make everything work correct as it can, am I right?

I cleaned my lines and I think I have something near this case that you mentioned above. Black with White stripe for sure, full Black fo sure and Black with smth like Grey stripe (or may be it was brown sometimes).
So combining all info, written and from scheme I should connect BLK/WH to ball, full BLK to Ball + carb vacuum port, BLK/GR is going to water valve and must be closed.
Am I right?

You write you are running your trans Line to carb. Usually it connects not to carb, but to a fittings in the back of the manifold just behind carb and in front of the distributor. I could be Wrong but tjats the Way all of mine has been connected over the years. The to front vacumpprts on the carb is for the distributor, wich one depending on your setup. The brakebooster connects to the carb in the back. Someone correct me If im wrong.

My edelbrock has 2 ports in the front.

As for the vacuum lines...I found the source of your confusion. You are correct, afterall, in that there is a Black, Black/Gray and Black/White hose coming out of the firewall. What I didn't know until I looked closer at the hoses running off my Temp Control is that the Brown hose I spoke about that is to run to the water valve transitions to a Black/White hose (for whatever reason) at the plug connection behind the dash. In other words, Brown hose from Temp Control to plug...then, Black/White from plug to engine compartment. So, Black/White hose runs to water valve, Black/Gray to vacuum ball and Black runs to a tee where it splits off into two (2) larger Black/White hoses...one goes to engine vacuum tree/nipple on intake manifold behind the carb...and, other goes to vacuum ball. Sorry I didn't catch that earlier. Those hoses are cut on my '75 Laguna, so it wasn't readily apparent by looking at it. Anyway, hope this explains everything.
