who lives near Philadelphia PA?
If you live near Philadelphia, and you have a 1973 Chevelle SS, have you ever been to Century Motor s (junk yard) on 61st street in SW Philadelphia? They've been advertising a 73 SS that they are parting out on craigslist. I've called the number, they don't answer. I answered the ad on email, I'll see if I get a response.
Just wondering if anyone here persued or looked into this car.

Theyve had that car listed for at least a year now, used to have 2 74s listed also. I know right where the place is (used to street race on that street) its only about 20 minutes from me, but I just havent had enough free time to get over there and look around (theres a ton of other yards in that area too)

Haha yes! I was 1 for 1 on 61st street although I never raced during the crazy night crowd. It was a side race during the day after one of those places put a windshield in my worked 72 impala. One of the mechanics had a 5.0 Mustang and said "think it's got enough for my Mustang" to which I said let's find out. I loved the sleeper nature of my Impala. No money on the line for that race, just bragging rights. This went down in 1991-92 timeframe.
If I head to Century I'll let you know what I find out.

Re: who lives near Philadelphia PA?
Went there but the guy who works there (really nice guy used to be a Philadelphia police officer) was telling me that the 73 SS is really picked over, not much of anything left. It was an automatic car. I suggested to him that they post pics on their craigslist ads and he said yeah the girls set up the online ads and he'll tell them. Century is an old car only yard, so every week something interesting comes in (this week was a 72 Buick 225 with a 455 that runs good and a perfect interior. I asked if it's the type of place that you van walk around but he said that they drive you around if there's a car you're interested in. I went to a half a dozen other yards (was also looking for late model Altima parts) and one of the yards told me that they send all their old cars to Century. So call Century first for our old stuff if you're shopping yards in SW Philadelphia.

Re: who lives near Philadelphia PA?
Went today but the 73 and 74 they have aren't really useable. The yard has a lot of old cars, even 30's and 40's cars in another section that I didn't see. The 73 is a Malibu with SS emblems added to front fender and rear cove panel (which was I correct for 73 anyway). Did notice a 1976(?) 442 (had the waterfall grille) entire car was badly rusted. Also saw a 1973 Cutlass coupe with writing on windshield "runs good." Also saw a single headlight G3Monte (couldn't see rear so can't pinpoint year). If you're near Philadelphia and you have old car needs you might get lucky but of course call first. The only thing I could see useable on the 73 was the hood, and maybe the front drivers fender but then again it's probably rusted behind the Malibu lower trim. Heres a few pics of the 73 and 74 Chevelles:

Re: who lives near Philadelphia PA?
I can't find the request for the rear bumper & rub strip. I'm thinking it was sometime last Fall.

Re: who lives near Philadelphia PA?
Yes, that was me looking for that. Looks like in fairly decent condition but is hard to tell from pictures, I'll ask clanceman427 if he recalls the condition. thanks, DaveMcarlo77 wrote:I can't find the request for the rear bumper & rub strip. I'm thinking it was sometime last Fall.

Re: who lives near Philadelphia PA?
Ahhhh, yes...now I recall. Weren't you also looking for the nose upper retaining bracket? I came across one in my stash not long ago and think it's for a '75/'76...although, I didn't compare to the one on my car at the time. Let me know and I'll check if still needed.
