Whats My Motor Worth?
Well Im swapping a 5.3 LS into my '67 this winter, so Im trying to figure out what I should try to sell the current 350 for.
Its a 4 bolt block .040 over (357ci), forged crank, 9.3cr with hypereutectic pistons, world products sr heads (1.94/1.50 76cc), Edelbrock performer rpm intake, Comp cams xe274 cam. Through a th350 & 2400 converter with 3.73s Ive gone 13.20 @ 103mph with it. Will be sold intake to pan, no carb.
And if I do say so myself, it sounds damn good through 2.5" exhaust and 40 series Flowmasters

Re: Whats My Motor Worth?
If you want to unload it fast I'd say put it up for $2000-$2500 & see what happens. You prob spend more on it w/ that cam & heads but hey, it's "fresh cash". Is the car included?

Re: Whats My Motor Worth?
Should be able to get at least 2 for that. What is the new LS going to be like? The Chevelle is on my top 10 "going to buy one one of these days cars". My brother in law has his father in laws 66 ss 396. The guy bought it new here in town.

Re: Whats My Motor Worth?
Just a stock all aluminum 5.3 with headers, intake, and exhaust for now, on a pretty tight budget to get it done. Then next winter once I have some more cash Ill do a cam and other stuff to it.ant7377 wrote:Should be able to get at least 2 for that. What is the new LS going to be like? Haha, no neither the car or the carb would be included (the carbs on long term loan from a friend)
I guess Ill just end up listing it for $1700 when the time comes and see what kind of interest I get.

Re: Whats My Motor Worth?
It's hard to get back any real money invested in a motor but I think at $1700 someone should scoop it up quick!

Re: Whats My Motor Worth?
Anybody else wanna throw their 2 cents in? Motor is getting pulled out in the next 2-3 months....still curious if my thoughts of getting $1700 is reasonable

Re: Whats My Motor Worth?
$1700 with a detailed video of running shifting thru the gears ( driving ) Is well worth that asking price I believe, But browse CL in areas other than your own and racingjunk dot com you will get a better idea of its worth. The only downfall I see of it is, has the 1.94 valved heads BUT that's an easy swap IF they want to do it....

Re: Whats My Motor Worth?
Yea I agree the heads are its biggest downfall, but as it is it still went 103mph in the 1/4 with my 285lb A$$ driving . I tried to take a video while driving it but it came out crap, lol, trying to steer, work the shifter, watch traffic and video it all at the same time is kinda hard,
And its never hiccuped or overheated on long trips, hell my mom and dad are gonna steal it in about 2 hours to go to a show 40+ miles away

Have mom and dad film it today or have your dad Drive it for a few blocks while you video It always options out there LOL Anyways I don't see why you couldn't start at 2k and come down a little if needed, for you can always go down in price BUT never can you raise the price LOL

Re: Whats My Motor Worth?
I personally think it would be a hard sell if you take it out of the car first and then try to sell it.
Leave it in the car in running condition so potential buyers can hear it run and test drive.
You'd be much more likely to sell it at top dollar in car running then on an engine stand.
I'd start at $2500, $1500 would be my low.

Re: Whats My Motor Worth?
While I would like to keep it in the car because I agree it will make it easier to sell, it sure makes it alot harder to start putting the new engine in

Re: Whats My Motor Worth?
I would start at $2500, and go from there. Just take a video of it running and rip it out. I took a video of my 383 noting the oil pressure and easy of starting and ended up selling it for $2500 after it was out of the car.

Re: Whats My Motor Worth?
For the amount of time he spent making it, I'm not sure the market would be there. Obviously it would be faster the second time around, but it would not be cheap.

Re: Whats My Motor Worth?
Well amazingly enough it sold last night at the posted CL price
Ive never had a better buyer from CL, he came in looked @ the engine and said "ok Ill take it", didnt haggle on the price 1 cent..... Maybe I listed it too cheap
