Oklahoma City 1974 Malibu Classic
Hi All!
I've yet to join any forums with this car and just hopped on ChevyTalk and now the G3 forums. I've owned this car for about 6 years and now I'm able to finally start fine tuning it. Luckily, it was a family car and has low mileage (50k), but like a majority of 41 year old cars, it needs some love... I'm sure I'll be asking too many questions, so, thanks in advance!

Ha ha! That's awesome. I'm trying to round up any photos of it from my father. He thinks that's the same style top that's always been on it, but we'll see what we can find. Who knows...

Welcome to a great place ! Great looking Malibu The vinyl top on my '74 had those same edge strips on it when I bought it in 1990, so maybe they are stock etc...

I don't know if this helps on the vinyl top determination, but here are some closer photos. Even though it seems the consensus is that it is an after market addition, whether it was a dealer option or factory edition, I'm not sure, but I'm pretty confident this is how my grandad purchased it from the dealer.
I'm thinking about scrapping the whole top and going hardtop depending on how bad the rust is underneath....

Hey ... welcome ... glad you joined us here ... woo hoo!
As for the top, I'd bet it was a dealer added top. I would think that, if it were factory, we would've seen at least one, if not a few, more like this. That noted ... it is very cool & unique!

Re: Oklahoma City 1974 Malibu Classic
Updates on this weekends adventures with the Malibu. The original 2 barrel carb had to go into storage for a while. I replaced it with a new Edelbrock 600cfm and intake manifold. While I had it all torn apart, I repainted most the brackets and valve covers with factory high temp Chevy orange. It's not the most beautiful, but it's definitely a step up (aesthetically and functionally) for now. Hopefully this is the kickstart to a cleaner engine bay...

Very nice, this is the first thing I did to my 305 which evolved into a rebuilt 355.

Thanks guys! All is well on our homefront. Lots and lots of rain, but we were clear of the tornado stuff this go around.

Spent the week putting longtube headers on the Malibu. Had to go scrub the dirt and grease off, but she cleans up pretty good!
