Re: Weather stripping
The best is the OEM GM stuff when you can find it. Doing a google type search will bring up some companies that supply it. One is A&M Soffseal for example....and another is steelrubber.com etc
I used the Soffseal stuff on my '74 Malibu...

Re: Weather stripping
The Parts Place is trying to get $595 for a set of NOS ones...LOL!!!
This subject has been discussed a number of times and Bill (pila) is correct in that original GM stuff is consistently the best fit. For some reason, the RH side is by far the hardest to find (NOS).
Other brands seem to be hit or miss as far as fit. A person may have great luck with brand A and the next guy buys from the same company and it doesn't fit worth a crap. Has everything to do with quality control regarding batch formulation and shrinkage/swelling during the extruding process during each run.
I'll PM you. May be able to help with NOS w/strips for a fraction of $595.

Re: Weather stripping
Just FYI. Rockauto has the whole Metro kit for only $138. That includes (2) door seals, (2) roof rail seals and (1) trunk seal.
Think thats a pretty good price to do the whole car. Part # for the kit is at the top of the link page.

Re: Weather stripping
Anyone use weatherstripping from steelrubber.com? Their kit is $308.10. Not sure if it is worth twice the price as the Metro kit.

Re: Weather stripping
I have had soft seal on my car for over 4 years now. Windows will still not go up all the way on there own (i have old stock power windows and leave them up all winter and when not driving) I have to open door to get them to go up last 1/4". I real pain when on free way. The glass is adjusted also. My trunk still has to be slammed to close and it sticks up a bit. I found stock NOS from some old barn place and have had them laid out all winter to try and get twist out form sitting on shelf for years. Plan to install them in spring.
Used steel rubber products on my brothers 58 Pontiac and they were softer than soft seal is.

Re: Weather stripping
Just reading in factory manual how to adjust the side glass out a bit. Do you use the alignment blocks?

Re: Weather stripping
This is the schematic and instructions on how to adjust glass inboard/outboard from my 1977 Chevrolet Service Manual that covers all models. Â I can't make sense of it as they refer to Adjusting Screws (G); which aren't shown (unless they are the lower ones marked (C))...and, upon adjustment to move the window felt against the glass and tighten bolts (E). Â I don't recall any method of adjustment of the window felt. Â Turn Adjusting Screws (G) so that the inner nylon pads are in light contact with wedges. Â What nylon pads...and, what wedges? Â I don't recall seeing those when I've removed glass.

Re: Weather stripping
Thanks for the feedback, I went with Steele Rubber. When I replaced the weatherstripping in the '90's, I think it was from J.C. Whitney, nothing fit all that great so I'll pay a little more for it to fit better this time.
When you buy from their eBay store they have free shipping. It's a $26 shipping charge on their website.

Re: Weather stripping
Very helpful information. I just bought the full set from Steele Rubber. All fit like a glove. I do need the window sweeps, any recommendations on which fit close to OEM? Thanks, Mitch

Re: Weather stripping
If you are still in need, I have a few sets of NOS GM inner and outers available. The down side, is I only sell them in sets of 4. I have quite a large quantity of NOS parts for 4th gen available. Due to some illness, my wife thinks I won't live long enough to use them. I have recently sold all my 4th gen El Caminos. And my 5th gen Crystalite conversion IROC SS El Camino. If I can help, please drop me a line.
