Custom trunk upholstery ideas
Working on my ideas for the trunk area. I want it to be clean, simple and functional. I want to add storage compartments on the left and right for clearning supplies and such. I was thinking a false floor and spare tire/jack underneath. I also want to box off my speaker area to give it better sound and maybe put in a small amp just to give it a little more umph.. I want the stereo to sound at least as good as a new car.
Anyone have any pics or tips from what they have done?

Re: Custom trunk upholstery ideas
This would probably be a better question for a 55/57 chevy, or 60/72 impala forum as it is more commonly seen on those cars. Maybe try chevytalk.

Not exactly what I am looking for, but that is neat. I used to have some alien head guitar pics that would glow in the dark. Good pics too, I liked them.

Re: Custom trunk upholstery ideas
I was just referencing the carpeted trunk and matched speaker boxes, I love the carpeted look but I need quarters installed first and weather strip re installed to even think about a carpeted trunk LOL

Re: Custom trunk upholstery ideas
My trunk is my parts bin. It's got everything from a tach and some other gauges, a pair of distributors, some brackets for things like alternator, a box with extra gaskets, a wire set and some looms, side view mirrors, even a blanket. It looks really good on the piece of green outdoor carpet that's been cut to shape
On a more serious note, I like the idea of boxing it off a little, putting the spare up where it belongs with some woofers and closing it in, leave some room for the trunk lid hinges of course, and the rest just a simple pocket on each side and clean space. Kind of like what you'd find today in a trunk.

Re: Custom trunk upholstery ideas
Since you aren't having much luck with this I'll give you a picture of mine as a sort of "bump". I've tried to reduce weight on mine, so (for me) there won't be any subwoofers, or any other unneeded weight.

Re: Custom trunk upholstery ideas
That looks good though. Everything has a place and situated nicely. This is what I want to see in a way. I just want to see how others have done theirs. Like I have said before, I am not interested in big subs and such either. I mean they might look cool back there, but I want essentials, tools, cleaning supplies for shows, spare tire and jack back there. I do want it clean, trimmed, waterproofed and maybe insulated for mine.

Re: Custom trunk upholstery ideas
Was thinking of having mine done with Line X would also work as a buffer against putting a dent in the fender from thinks in the trunk.

Re: Custom trunk upholstery ideas
That is exactly what I was looking for, but wanted to see if anyone had done any on a G3. I had not thought of using Velcro to attach the panels. I wonder how thick those are?

I have 2" close cell foam chunks in my Quarters so no "outy" dents coming out from truck stuff sliding around.

Re: Custom trunk upholstery ideas
I use Angle aluminum and use window urethane to attach it to the body with so no drilling pop rivets or screws that way. Then Frame out what ever you want.
On our cars you would need to put in a sheet of plywood with spacer to get the floor flat due to the hump in trunk floor. That 55 Chevy has a board in the bottom of it to clear gas fill tube area. You will loose space if you finish off a trunk. If you want storage compartments made to fit in rear corners than you will need to make fiber glass molds off the sides. A lot of work.

Re: Custom trunk upholstery ideas
I have some leaks to fix somewhere, before I start that, but I can't wait. I want to store things back there, but don't want them flying all over the trunk. I have one of those dents you guys were referring to.
