Re: 77 Malibu Classic frame off resto
I drive that car 500 miles/year. So it should be fine underneath. I'll keep the compressor easy to reach the tank doesn't need to be.

The tank is where your valves are attached. If you have a problem, 95% of the time it's a sticking valve. Unless you go with a manifold $y$tem..

Re: 77 Malibu Classic frame off resto
If it were me personally in your situation, I'd put a 3 gallon semi tank on each frame rail, run the lines from the tank to the trunk, put your valves in the trunk (for easy access) and put your compressor in the engine compartment. They are actually pretty small and should tuck nicely into the driver side corner of the core support. Some of them are quite loud so maybe it would mask it being under the hood.

frame looks pretty good. Some spots are smoother than others.

Re: 77 Malibu Classic frame off resto
I am welding patches on the inside bottoms of the pass door. My welding sucks but after grinding it is not bad. And besides its the inside and not very easy to look at. I also have to finish scraping undercoating and hope for a couple nicer days where I can push the Rotisserie outside and blast the outside floor and some inside floor spots where there is light rust. somewhere in there I have to see my engine guy about prepping the block and some headwork, then I can assemble and fit the motor. I need a 4l80E I can do a rebuild on and install also.

The worst spot (by far) is this tail panel. Its like it was never painted. Hopefully there will be no holes after blasting. I have been poking at it and I think it is ok.

Just looks like surface rust on the tail panel to me. I'm worried about the panel that folds up from the floor where the back seat goes on mine. We'll see soon enough I guess.

Worst case I might have a couple tiny holes I can weld in. I started using mineral spirits and paper towel to wipe off the remainder of the undercoating but the thicker spots are not coming off easily. Tonite I plan to use a wire brush and see if that gets it better. Saturday is gonna be 50 and sunny so I need to be ready to sandblast the rusty spots.

Gonna blast the rust tomorrow. Hopefully I have enough sand.

Re: 77 Malibu Classic frame off resto
I sandblasted till I ran out of time and sand. I got all the rust. inside on the floor, around the windows. I even blasted the firewall and cowl. I have a tiny amount of undercoating left to scrap and I will DA the remaining paint and shoot chassis saver over the floor. I'll use SEM trim black on the firewall/cowl and the inside floor will get some epoxy primer.

Re: 77 Malibu Classic frame off resto
I'm always curious what people use for blast media & what do you plan to use for a coating? I've used POR 15 & the stuff is awesome. Another member, Laguna Budman, used a textured bed-liner type coating & it came out really nice. I think it was Rhino-Lining or something like that. Usually the floor pans are shot because of leaks in the glass. All that metal looks great, nice job! .
Wanna sell that rotisserie, when you're done?

Re: 77 Malibu Classic frame off resto
I am going to use Chassis saver (satin) its like por-15. But you spray it so it has a nice factory look and it very chip resistant. I hit the wife's Nova with a wrench in a couple spots assembling the car and it did not make a mark. I will probably epoxy the firewall and then SEM black over that. I have to check and see if SEM requires primer cause I can't remember. I used Sand for media. Sackrete medium grit.
