Re: Somernites Cruise
Ok, crossing off a few things on the list. Not enough done yet.
I did get to sink in the rear bumper. Wish it would have went about 1/2 more, but looks a lot better. Touched up some paint in the engine bay.
Ran into problems with the seat belt again. I spent about 3 hours working on it Friday evening as I couldn't get the one out of my 75. I beat it out of the holey floor with a hammer and jack handle then ground the bolt off with a grinder then retrieved another bolt from a truck. Got ready to put the donor belt in and tested it to make sure it would lock together with the 74 and it didn't. klasdjfkafhdskfsdcjds
OK, so either I take the retracting part out of the 75 as well or I find another belt for under the seat. I guess I need one from a 74 that's black. HELP!
Yesterday I was able to get the top part of the spedo cable on and found that most of my dash bulbs were burned out so I bought some of those to put it. Maybe when I get those in I will have dash lights and a spedo that works!!!

Re: Somernites Cruise
What kind of hood scoop are you putting on, I'm tossed between a pro stock style, 4 in. cowl, or the Ever elusive 73 firebird twin scoops. I like how they come flush to the tip of the hood. Ever since I saw Chip Foose graft a 68 chevelle hood onto the surfer el camino, that's what I wanted to do with a 73 firebird. Do you have a pic of scoop?

I don't know what mine is, but it came off an s10 I once had. If you have pics of those you were talking about, post em up!

Re: Somernites Cruise
Personally I like the Thunderbolt scoop, it does not fog up your windshield in the winter like a cowl hood does. JB

This is the firebird hood scoop I like; I learned they were only ever made in fiberglass from factory.http://www.ebay.com/itm/1973-Pontiac-Firebird-Formula-Fiberglass-Hood-/271163977496?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Year%3A1973%7CModel%3AFirebird&hash=item3f22a1ef18&vxp=mtr

Re: Somernites Cruise
Not bad, but I think I prefer more of a squared off scoop. Could change my mind if I saw it on a car though!

Re: Somernites Cruise
Update:
Talked to a guy in town about redoing the exhaust. I don't care for how it exits the back. I am going to have him cut out about 3 foot of pipe and install two angle cut stainless tips that exit out the side behind the rear wheels rather than out the back. Headed there after work!
Kinda like this one. He is going to angle cut them so that they exit flush with the body!
Picked up some bolts for the back of the front seat got the bolts in but not tightened down.
Got the hood scoop on and painted!!!
I like it ok, it was one that I had from an old s10 hood that I bought years ago. Hopefully I will have some pics tomorrow.
Things still left to do before the show.
Seatbelt!!! Still missing.
Exhaust tips.
Clean and paint floor.
Tighten down seat bolts.
Touch up paint and clean the car!

Re: Somernites Cruise
Sorry, didn't get the pics taken. It was getting dark as I finished the last coat of paint for the night. I did however get the following done.
Repainted the top, trunk lid, hood, side mirror and underneath side of the hood.
Cleaned all interior glass and chrome ( completed by my beautiful wife)
Got dirt and other unknown debris in my back seat ( completed by my 3 year old son)
Got New Exhaust tips installed. They exit at an angle out behind the rear wheels and are cut on a 45 to match the body.
They sound awesome. I didn't realize how much it would change the sound. Made it just a bit louder which is what I had hoped for. Was just too quiet before!
Things still to do before the show on Saturday.
Clean and paint floors.
Tighten down seat bolts.
Wash and shine everything possible!

Somernites Cruise
Friday night I washed the car in preparation for the cruise, but didn't do a very good job. Saturday morning I got up and went to work on the Chevelle. Cleaned and shined the wheels and tires. The interior was pretty clean so I didn't worry about it too much. I masked off the quarter panels and primed and painted a block to cover up some of my in progress body work until I could get back to it. I am not in love with it but it does look better than bare metal, scratches and uneven spots of filler. Hopefully I can post some pics tonight of my progress.
Car show was awesome, but cold. There were two G3 Pontiacs, one Olds and four Chevelles. The were three 74's and one 73 Chevelle. Two were from Indiana and two were local. I talked to the owner of the 73 and he told me that he bought the car in New Mexico and drove there to pick it up. Said it took him 25 hours one way. It was the nicest G3 I have ever seen in person and all original.

Re: Somernites Cruise
Here is one of the 74's that made it to the last show. I have never been able to catch this guy, but he is always there.
It has a 502 fuel injected motor in it.

Does that car have a spoiler on the trunk? If so, it doesn't look that bad. I actually kinda like it.
