Anybody out there with a stick shift G3, I need a close up picture of the z bar mounts on the frame and block. If anyone could post a close up pic I would be indebted forever...

You may want to PM member G3nut on here. He did a 6 speed Camaro/ls-1 conversion on his 73 Chevelle. Nice guy & he knows his stuff & can most likely get you those pics.

I have a factory 4speed and my body happens to be off the frame at this time. I'll get you some pics. According to your pic, it looks like your missing the rubber bellows boots that goes over the rod from the pedal to the z bar. The boot bolts to the firewall. If you happen to get a part number on it let me know. Mines ripped but I havent looked at it closely to see if theres a number on it.

Ok, here you go. I forgot that I already removed and bagged all these parts. But I put them back on for the quick pics for you. The frame bracket is real simple. Just find the two holes and bolt it in. It uses self tapping screws. The block pivot point just screws in and it has a flat side so you can wrench it tight. Notice the boot on the firewall. Thats about it. If you need better pics of where the bolt holes on the frame are, let me know. I have my new frame sitting here and accessible.

In the first pic of the Z bar, just above it, shrouding the brake proportioning valve, is the factory reverse lock linkage pivot point. Dont know if your going that far but thats where a bar from the trans shift lever pivots on that and connects to the steering column. Just a factory safety thing that everyone usually discards.

5 speed swap got accelerated two weeks ago. I was on my way to work when I lost clutches or a band in my 700R4. So I took the opportunity to swap in my 5 speed. It is almost done (neutral start switch, backup lights, and speedo is off) but I am now prepping the car for paint before school starts. I was ready to start on paint when the tranny let go. Oh well. I also need to find a floor shift tilt column. I had one and sold it before I moved, thinking I would not need it. Oh well again. 5 in a row 5speedin_zps1cefbc49

I am thinking of going with a 5 speed in my chevelle now. Wondering how hard it is find everything needed to do a complete auto to 5 speed swap. Also wondering if they make an aftermarket pedal setup. Those seem to be hard to find.

It is somewhat hard to find a complete setup but the Parts Place in Chicago has a reproduction changeover kit (pedals, linkage, z bar) for $289. Pedal setups occasionally pop up on EBAY. I got mine a couple of years ago and I think I paid $60 for it. It had the right pedals and linkage but the wrong z bar, so I modified a 79 Camaro z bar to fit. It works great but I still have a couple of small things to finish. S-10 T5 transmissions are cheap as well as non-world class Camaro units. Early model transmissions had mechanical speedometers, but the s-10 models place the shifter about 5" farther than the Camaro units. This would actually work better in a bench seat car. Bellhousings for mechanical linkage are hard to find and Camaro units had the transmission tilted 15 degrees counterclockwise for the consoles to work. Bellhousings out of 82 and 83 Z28's are ofter for mechanical linkage if you are looking. The T5 is the same length as other more common 4 speeds.

Very clean looking install, sir! I see the shifter is almost centered instead of hanging off the side of the tunnel. Is that the T5 's normal shift location? I like it!

This is not a T5 but a T50. It was a low performance 5 speed that was used in V8 Monzas and some Cosworth Vegas, as well as 1976 Lemans with the Olds 260 V8 and the 1976/77 442 with the Olds 260 V8. It has a few positive elements: favorable gear ratios, mechanical speedo, rear shifter, same length as my 700r4, and same input shaft length and splines as a Muncie/Saginaw/ T10. Downside is it is not a performance transmission, but my car is a daily driven cruiser, so I don't beat on it. They also have limited parts because they are rare, but they are also cheap. I paid $85 for the transmission and shifter.

Joe, as far as I can tell there is not a reproduction of the boot. There are two substitutes that people use, one for Chevy trucks and one for 70-81 Camaros. I went with the Camaro one because it was half the cost. I covers fairly well but it may not line up with your mounting holes. Since my car was an automatic, I just drilled new holes since my car did not have them. I got it off Ebay. It was about $15 plus shipping. The Chevy truck one is about $30. The one in the earlier pic was an original and it was deteriorated. The Camaro one matched up fairly well, it might have been a tad bit smaller.

Productive end of summer. I finally got some paint on. It needs a couple of more coats of clear and fixing the boo boos from painting in a barn!

I used all Eastwood products. Epoxy primer, urethane high build primer, single stage urethane paint (Gasser Green metallic), and European clear. The hood is Eastwood Meteor Gray metallic. I used Rage gold filler and used plastic adhesion promoter and SEM flex primer on the nose.

Hey, Doc Larry...that is probably one of the nicest paint schemes I've seen on a Laguna! Just plain awesome!

I just installed a set of blacked-out grills on my '75 'Guna today and matte black tail panel. Was thinking of doing some kind of matte black hood scheme to pull it together as well.
