Re: quarter panel fix?
Ive done some "hack" repairs in the past with hardware store sheet metal and duraglass. That's probably not what you are talking about though.

Re: quarter panel fix?
Jegs and most of the other parts houses have parts for the gen 3's, why do a hack when you could get a lower door repair section and graft it? BTW anyone that needs floor pans, I saw them on rockauto.com for 89$ best deal yet

Re: quarter panel fix?
Here are a few pics of the things I have to work out on the car.
Behind drivers door.
Previous owners awesome fix for the passenger qp.

Rust around the rear window.
Top was cutout by previous owner. It's hard to see how wavy the top is in the picture.

Re: quarter panel fix?
You could always put on Lincoln roof like the Monte Carlo in the other thread. honestly it might be best to repair the roof to the best of your ability and reinstall a vinyl top.

Re: quarter panel fix?
The lower quarter panels would most easily fixed with a replacement panel (or a piece cut from another car)do to the compound curves involved. You could attempt to make a piece (weld it in). But leave it low to level with bondo, not the best way, but budget friendly.

Re: quarter panel fix?
I actually used part of a Laguna fender:
This allowed me to keep the same wheel opening lines all the way down. I just flattened the panel out to follow the quarter panel lines and then welded it in.

Re: quarter panel fix?
Thats the plan there as well, but I just have to find a good donor. Hard to find in these parts!

Re: quarter panel fix?
I have you all beat so far on what NOT to do. This is what my 73 looked like after I had it media blasted.
Someone should be shot for doing some thing like this. Had to sand blast the mud off just to see what was under it.

Re: quarter panel fix?
My roof and opera windows have the same issue. I have a hole in the driver side quarter just at the lower corner of the back window and 4 rust bubbles around each opera window. Looks like these things have common areas huh?

Re: quarter panel fix?
Those look like the patches we did on my car in high school, some 15yrs ago. Roofing tin and bondo, which is the reason why I just decided to put a new body on it. If I can find ever find the pictures I will post them.

Re: quarter panel fix?
I had rust issues around my back window as well. I found a rust free donor panel and cut it to fit:

Re: quarter panel fix?
Well Wally- you would never have known as there were enough rivets in there for the old magnet test. So far I've been pretty lucky, minus the roof. Worse comes to worse I'll put one of those Skylark style tops on it...LOL

Re: quarter panel fix?
77Mali, You are correct but for me I bought the car with out seeing it other than photos. I was told his uncle was a body man he had fixed all the bad spots. I live in MN and drove 60 miles south of Nashville to get it. I knew it was going to be rough when I looked under and saw carpet from the ground up. For as much time as that took to put all those strips and patches they could have just got a new quarter and cut out what they needed. Would have saved a lot of time also. The inner qtrs were bad also so I bought a set of 72 chevelle ones and modified them to fit. When they don't make new you have to come up with idea's or make you own. Below is what I did for the repair.
