Re: What's the plan for your ride?
I have my body off as we speak.
1. Factory block has been boiled and checked.
2. New balanced rotating assembly is waiting. Forged pistons with 10.3:1 compression. Scat rods and crank.
3. Comp cams 292 flat tappet cam.
3a. Aluminum heads with 200 or 210cc runners will be on it.
4. Victor Jr. maifold powdercoated clear.
5. Holley 750 with adjustable vacuum secondaries is sitting on the bench waiting.
5a. Put in a 2 1/2" exhaust and sell my 2 1/8" system.
6. Putting my factory wide ratio muncie back in.
7. Plan to strip the undercoating off the floors and possibly paint the bottom the same color as the body.
8. Firewall will be refreshed.
9. Sandblasted and epoxied frame is waiting as well.
10. Rear will be sandblasted along with the arms, rear sway bar, 1 1/8" factory front bar and my scattershield. Scattershield will probably get powdercoated. Epoxy on the rest.
11. Put it all back together and put the factory stripes back on and clear coat the whole car.
So in a a nutshell. Rebuild the motor, clean up underneath, chassis swap and stripes.
Thats about it.

Re: What's the plan for your ride?
That's an ambitious project, and multi-thousand dollar investment for sure. Me, I'm happy with my '74 Malibu Classic like it is right now, with a 408 small block stump- puller engine and recent resto.
My El Camino project has already broke me for parts. It went past 14 grand so quick I didn't realize it !!

Re: What's the plan for your ride?
Money being the ultimate factor, My intentions are to build a really great handling and lowered as much as feasable with around 350-375 horse 74 chevelle, (currently in pieces). My 73 elco I like to build to a really hot 454 powered street machine, big and little tires like the old days. Mean and nasty. If my son decides he wants a different car during his stint in the military, I'd like to cut the roof off and make a topless 4 seater elco from his 76 sprint. I had started to build one years ago but soon realized the car needed more than it was worth, the car had caught fire in the engine bay and interior, I regret getting rid of it now. My 74 has had the bumpers tucked and chopped, and gutted, a/c and heater are gone, no radio and still going. I'm currently rebuilding a 454 for my 73 elco,(basically a mild cammed 30 over bored stock rebuild). And hopefully 1 more elco, and a 73 chevelle to add to my collection.

Re: What's the plan for your ride?
This summer:
- replace the buick engine with a 454 crate
- get the TH-400 rebuilt
- freshen up engine compartment at the same time
- install map and dome light
- adjust sagging passenger side door
Future plans:
- install new springs to achieve 1973 454 Montes height
- considering putting on lower body moldings

Re: What's the plan for your ride?
I love hearing about what others plan to do with their cars. Most of what I posted is all a dream. As far as money goes, I think I had some before I got married if I remember right. Now we have a 2 1/2 year old son and a 6 month old daughter. I can even afford to license and insure the car right now, but a fellow can dream right?

Re: What's the plan for your ride?
Ok here's the basic idea for me.
SBC 408 (aka punched out original block) to run mids 400s hp and torque.
700r4 mildly built.
Both above projects will be handled by a buddy to keep costs down work exchange system lol.
Glass trunk and and cowl hood
Lighten and tighten bumpers and doors and anything else I can find to lose some weight (aka me too)
Now for the pricey part stuff
Want to run 14 discs and high performance tubular a arms, larger front sway bar up front and out back.Up grade the rear suspension to adjustable arms up and down and rear discs as well probably stick with the 342 rear gears for now.
Oh and already got Marshall 6 guage package will try and install into factory spots.
Car will be sprayed candy red with violet pearl
That's the plan for now

For suspension check out that link in my post for Performance Suspension. They have more than anyone for out cars. They even have the G Machine Stage 4 kit even though it doesn't say so on their site. I called them and I think it was under 3 grand for the stage 4 kit. I can't remember for sure. They even have the rear disk conversion kit and I believe it was cheaper from them as well.

Since the guna isn't numbers matching, the plan is to drop it 2 or 3 inches, coilovers on all 4 corners, c5 spindles & brakes for the front & convert to disc brakes in the rear. Boss motorsports 338's in Black Staggered 20's in the rear with 18's on the front and completely blacked out.

Re: What's the plan for your ride?
My car is in my buddies shop for body and paint,
Its gonna be white with a black fiberglass 4" cowl hood.
The carpet is gone allready, the rest of the interior is going as soon as I get the car back from paint.
I'm gonna try my hand at my first cage installation the car will have a mig welded mild steel 8 point style roll bar with swing out door bars.
I'm planning on gutting the stock dash with the interior and fabricating a flat dash out of aluminum on a dash spreader style bar. only basic switches and simplified wiring.
Small block 400 to stay till I smoke it, tremec TKO 600 for trans,
Furd nine inch looks the best and 3.7's or so meets the first gear of the Tko 600's 2.87 first pretty well with a 28 inch or so tire.
Detroit locker at the very least, possible spool.
It is mini spooled right now with 3.08's and it is a blast to drive on the street, drifting is no problem.
I would remove the inner fenderwells to save weight but itll drive in the rain often, or sink the bumpers but I want the car to maintain the dont mess with me look on the freeway that steers cars away from it due to my obvious intent to pit maneuver any rice rocket or soccer van that gets too close. So the ominous bumpers may stay,
I'm toying with making my own bumpers out of 4" wide c channel cut to width with rear kickers from the corners tying them to the frame, and 1/8" steel plates going from the rear bumper corners and bolted to the side sheetmetal of the trunk, then tied to the rear kickers of the cage. a square tubing reinforcement of the radiator core support with kickers to the front fraim rails, covered by expanded metal to protect the radiator and make a good bashing surface for the front end if needed.
I'm keeping my car high and tight so that I fear no speed bump or curb and have no worry about bottoming out save for the worst spots, so lowering is 99% out of the question.
More caster is required as is tightened rear control arms. I'm keeping 15" wheels and am hoping for yellow letter goodyear tires to run on the street.
forget about carpet, ashtrays, any chrome trim except the bumpers and grille. no headliner no rear package tray, fill the rear seat area with sheetmetal to compartmentalize the trunk for a fuel cell and battery box.
Move the e brake to a lever on the floor or a verticle lever in front of the manual trans lever, with a lock that has to be pushed to engage it so j turns could be performed at will.
two pro street aluminum kirkey seats with current belts tied per NHRA rules to the seat back bar.
Lexan as can be afforded.
four retaining plates for the windshield and bumper retention chains/cables.
everything will be white except for the hood, and the engine will stay orange. I like to be able to see in to the engine bay and interior.
Pioneer supertuner tape deck in tact with two six by nines rocking Minor Theat and early Sacred Reigh (surf nicaragua) possibly misfits walk among us. and trapped under Ice by metallica.
