Okay, that made me laugh -- been there, done that! Nice job on it, too! It's an hour well spent to know it's done right even if nobody sees it. Weatherpacks are the way to go -- easier to work with, maintenance later on is easier, and no worries about moisture.

Re: 74Malibu383 Build
When I was 16 or so, I put an aftermarket set of power windows in the car. The ones where you mount the motor, and attach the "gear" to the manual window crank. It worked alright, but after I replaced all the weather stripping in 2009, it never had enough muscle to push that heavy window up. So, back to manual. Then I found this kit from Dixie Restoration Depot. Yes, it is pricey, but holy crap is it a nice kit. Bolts right in to the factory location and is super smooth. You can tell the motor has a lot of torque too just by watching it try to twist then you hit the switch. The wiring harness is also very nice. Since my dash is out, and it was long enough, I was able to run it through the plastic channel above at the top of the dash. All it needs is a power and ground. It comes with it's own fuse, but my Painless fuse panel has outputs for both power windows and locks, so I was able to use that.

Re: 74Malibu383 Build
Just out of curiosity, and because I'm no good at electrical, I see that you have 4 individual coil packs instead of a traditional distributor setup. Just wondering what advantage this offers. More voltage that you can't get through a single coil setup? or...?

Re: 74Malibu383 Build
I believe the voltage might actually be lower than a single coil but it increases the spark duration over 3 fold. For forced-induction applications, Holley recommends running a DIS system (4 coil packs) instead of the typical single coil. I sure hope they are right, because it added a lot of extra wiring and fabrication...
I'm also running a 60-2 crank trigger and cam shaft sensor in this engine. This gets rid of both a conventional distributor and the single coil and increases the timing accuracy.
If you're really curious to learn more, this is a great thread:

Re: 74Malibu383 Build
wow, very interesting thread. According to them I guess it is a more powerrful spark than a high powered single coil And yeah I can see the extra wiring there. Though you did a great job of making it look good. That's interesting. So Compared to like an MSD box that give you 3 sparks in a row, I'm assuming that 4 pack setup giving you one long spark is kind of the same idea? to burn all the fuel off and more efficiently and whatnot? And the crank sensor looks nice too. I suppose all that make sense when you're running a high compression forced induction engine, that the timing and type of ignition setup has to be very precise. very interesting setup. I like how the crank and cam sensor work together to find TDC too. that's quite a bit of work for all that. I hope it performs and is as reliable as they make it sound. lol I always love learning how all this stuff works. Even if I don't have any of it on my setup.

Re: 74Malibu383 Build
IIRC that's why the factories do it now, too. It's especially helpful as the RPMs get higher -- a single coil would get overwhelmed and not be able to produce the spark fast or long enough.

Re: 74Malibu383 Build
I too hope it performs as well as it claims to. It should, but there's always that thought in the back of your mind that it won't. I will say that I probably have close to as much time researching, reading, and reviewing wiring diagrams as I have in actual physical work. This is definitely a new world for me. I had plans to just throw the 383 distributor and carburetor back on the 572 and call it a day. Then I realized the hood wouldn't fit with the ProCharger carb hat. I really wanted to keep the stock height hood, so this is where I ended up.... Fuel injected... Who knows, maybe I'll break out of the double digits in mileage!!!!

Re: 74Malibu383 Build
HAH! Funny how just wanting to retain the stock hood can get you into all that. I felt the same way about wanting to keep my stock flat hood, but more just for the stock car look for me. I have about and inch and a half from the top of my carb to the hood. And yes, I agree having at LEAST double the time researching and learning what your doing compared to the physical work is a no brainer for anyone who's wanting to do it "the right way". That's kinda why I asked. Not that I'll ever have that fancy setup on my cars, but I like it and find it fascinating to know what it is and how it works. That would be great to see that thing get there in terms of mileage. What else do we put ourselves through all this for? lol!

Routed, cut, and crimped some 8.5mm MSD spark plug wires last night. Think they came out pretty good. Still need to adjust some of them so you can't see the MSD lettering, but I think it was a success.

What size rims and tires are you running? Did you have to do any mods to get them on there?

Re: 74Malibu383 Build
Thanks guys.
I'm actually running 19x10's up front now and the same 20x10's in the rear that were in that article. 275/35/19's up front...
I thought I had all this in my build thread, but there seems to be a few older pages are missing from the thread. Not sure how that happened??

Bryan what offset and backspace are you using? Did you have to get an adapter? Do you ever wish you had smaller wheels? I'm on the fence with between the 18 and 20 inch.
