My 75 Chevelle "ETHEL"
This is my '75 Chevelle. I bought Her from a 95 year old woman for a dollar in 1995. At the time I had other projects and didnt have the time for it. I gave the chevelle to my brother as a replacement for his 73 laguna that was rotting to death. 11 years later and with his laguna long gone(we stripped it and saved the parts) I pulled her from his garage.
[img][/img]
Ethel was 75 when she bought it new. and lived in elderly housing for the rest of her life. The car was parked on pavement for twenty years and has been indoors since '95.
[img][/img]
picked this up for $100 the nose and seats
[img][/img]
[img][/img]
Typical rot
[img][/img]
found some rot in the lower cowl. So I removed the top.
[img][/img]
[img][/img]
Made some patches. eliminated the center vent. I'm really only concerned with keeping the defrost.
[img][/img]
all painted up

Seats in. Although I've since discovered that they are to far forward. I mounted them to the bench seat front corner mounts. Which after I found this site discovered that a few of you guys have delt with this problem. Thanks for the insight!

And thanks for all the "WELCOMES"!
Its good to see how many of these cars are being preserved. Maybe us New England guys can get our cars together sometime in the future. I'd love to see a '73-'77 A-body meet happen, or does it already? Although I'd think it should include the later G and B bodies? Any thoughts or interest ? And i dont mean show cars, just cars, even if they're on trailers.

Gotta finish my car but I'd be interested when it's done, or at least driving/registered. I don't know of any meets specific to our Gen. A body's but there's an every Thurs night cruise during the season at Kitty's in North Reading & a big meet at Skips in Merrimac/Amesbury every few weeks also.

Thanks. I think thats what keeps her around. Since 1995 I have given this car to both of my brothers at seperate times. She keeps coming back. Between the time I got the Chevelle and now, I've had upwards of thirty or more cars, trucks ,bikes and projects... and shes still here. This car hasn't even been wet in almost 17 years. And spent a pampered 2 years in my brothers garage which is carpeted. Seriously... carpet! It now sports a 73 laguna grill from my brothers old car with an SS emblem attached to it from the early 80's. I know the emblem isn't correct but I just can't bring myself to remove it. The Ansen Sprint wheels were chained to a house down the street from an apartment I moved into in '05. Guy wanted $25 for them. There was a batch of spider eggs in the original bench seat the size of a grapefruit. But worst of all tucked in the front seat were a pair of old lady panties... I dont want to know!
And by the way I've been caling her "Cold Ethel" all day

Re: My 75 Chevelle "ETHEL"
Thought I'd take a stab at doing my headliner over. The rear was falling down and would tear if I touched it. It was spray bombed black a while ago. And I think I missed a few spots.
[img][/img]
It came out very easy, but extremly fragile. Very britle. Does anyone know what the square hole in the roof, above the mirror is for? Looks like it was meant for something

The square hole is meant for the map light accessory. I bought one that I plan to install on mine when I redo my interior.

Re: My 75 Chevelle "ETHEL"
I figure the easiest way to get this done is to recover the old liner. Doing so I'll retain the bows and keep the shape. Hoping I was able to work all the wrinkles out. We'll find out in the A.M. The shop next door to me builds handicap vans and makes custom headliners. Scored a scrap piece. This should turn out like a newer cars liner? Also looking for a modern dome light and maybe something for that maplight location. I was going to go black, until I looked at the headliner in my truck. It has a dark charcoal interior and a light gray headliner. kinda lightens the mood a little.
[img][/img]
Got it all flattened out and put some weight on for the night. The 3/4" plywood strips came in handy. Fingers crossed.

Re: My 75 Chevelle "ETHEL"
I hope you used a high heat contact cement on that or the first hot day it will come down on you. Glue does not like to stick to the face of the vinyl. If you want the new car style of headliner fabric cal Acme Auto Headlining they will make up a new headliner for you for around 120.00. I have used them for years and never had a problem with any of there headliners. They will have one for just about any car. They can make up matching visors in the same fabric for you so they will match. Just my 2 cents here.

So far, so good. But time will tell. Even if I fail, I've spent no money on it. But I appreciate the advice

How about an overhead console with compass and temp from a blazer with dome and 4 map lights? This turned out to be pretty simple. Also holds my keyless entry unit.
