Dash woodgrain
So I've finally found a good gauge bezel with decent woodgrain that isn't hacked up around the radio or otherwise destroyed. Problem is the bezel is red, and I need it green.
I've got a dead-on match for paint, but I need to either take the woodgrain overlay off or mask it off and paint around it. I'd rather take it off.
I'm guessing a heat gun to soften the glue, and then some sort of contact cement for the re-application?

Re: Dash woodgrain
I would mask very very carefully around it......... I doubt you could get it off without Creasing it.....I have tried on multiple occasions

Re: Dash woodgrain
I'm with Limey on this one as I have tried also. The age makes the wood grain very brittle even w heat gun. I personally don't like the wood grain and tried carefully to take it off and it just cracked on 3 different bezels. Also left glue remnants so I wound up painting over the last wood grain bezel I had.

C'mon ! You need the woodgrain it goes with the car! You can take it off but it is part of the car ! Its like covering the opera window ,not cool !! 70's car needs the 70's vibe!!!!

It's that added bit of flair!
I managed to get one off without creasing it by soaking it in hot water but since it was already broken and faded out I had nothing to lose.
I've found a company that sells sheet vinyl woodgrain for like $20 a 3sqft roll I'll have to find their site again, if I mess up this one.
Limey that's kind of what I figured, just best to paint around it.

Re: Dash woodgrain
I have wood grain on the bezel in my Elco project. It's firethornn red, and it's from the '77 that I had to scrap. I used the whole interior in my '75 project.
A friend had a '73 Elco with wood grain on the body. I didn't care for that much...

Chris, whats up with your seatbelts? Why dont you have those little black plastic ones (exploding seatbelts) in that car. Are they just in the bench seats ? Or did you change them?

Chris do you know if the "male" part of those will fit into the ones in my car? Just in case the exploding buckles actually do that one day.

Re: Dash woodgrain
yeah a black interior doesn't need the woodgrain and yours looks fantastic.
My green interior is a bit much without it for my taste.

If you wouldnt mind when you get a chance ,see if the male part of the little black plastic ones like I have fit into what you have there in your car. That would be great !
