Re: Getting closer on the Chevelle
what can I say that's just an amazing job of what you have done with that car, hats off to you. Color on one of these is always an issue because of the size, I know with mine I wanted to go with the comp. colors, hugger orange, yellows, reds, black, but chose to go with a different flavor & thank god there was enough chrome to help break it up. The color you have reminds me of the 63 gun metal grey 409 with dual 4's Impalas, a bit lighter but I like it and the stripes look good. Must be hard working in a small shop like the one in the pics, (just kidding) looks like an awesome shop lucky dog, anyways a most awesome job for sure and keep the pics coming, enjoyed all the pics of the R&RLaguna Budman wrote: Finally had my daughter help me with photobucket so I could show off the progress. I dig the color combo, but man that dash setup just blows it all away! I love how you went with the white gauges & silver dashpad to break up the interior.

Re: Getting closer on the Chevelle
Please do a write up on the dash work you did budman that looks like you put alot of time into it. Love all the detail work you have put in. Nice to see that you painted the under side of the fenders to protect em from rust. The frame looks good as well.

Re: Getting closer on the Chevelle
Thanks for all the positive comments guys. The frame is all POR-15 with some parts coated with gun metal gray. (more pics to come of that I didn't have my other card) The underside and inner fender wells are Rhino-lined (smooth finish) with a UV spray for easy cleaning. The dash well lets just say started as a disaster. I bought the world famous dash cap to save some money. A local interior guy told me to throw away the glue it comes with and use windshield urethane. Worked good its not coming off, but I didn't like how it fit around the vents and corners. I wound up taking it to probabley the best interior guy in our area and we mathed the vinyl on my seats and doorpanels. Believe it or not that is one piece of vinyl (no seams) He did an awesome job. Then I painted all my vents, dash bezel, tilt, turn signal, inner door handles and glove box handle black. The white gauges are that kit you find on Ebay and worked great. Good quality graphics on white vinyl. Thanks again for the comments. I'm no expert but if you have other questions feel free to ask.

HA! Sweet! Looks great man.
12 years ago, I had the owner of the paint shop I had mine done at bring in his 1970 SS Chevelle to match the stripes on. I have a polaroid picture of it somewhere.

Re: Getting closer on the Chevelle
I have a dash prepped to do the same. Waiting to order a dash pad at the moment. What grain & grade vinyl did you use? The car looks great! Hope I get there too someday.

Re: Getting closer on the Chevelle
77mali, I would have to check into that info but he did tell me I wouldn't have needed the dash cap. He said he can fix the cracks and go right over it with a very light padding and vinyl. Jedediah, look at the pics close. I sh#t you not no seams. I was very impressed with his work.

Re: Getting closer on the Chevelle
Budman, if you can ask him when you get a chance, that would save me a whole lotta research. I think they use a compressible foam filler that's glued to the top of the dash and then use a lightly padded vinyl too in order to make it look that good. Thanks!

Re: Getting closer on the Chevelle
Not yet Budman but have the number you sent me. Have not had a chance to work on the car since early Nov. I will call him though, if nothing else to pick his brain on a thought or two I've been milling around for a while regarding the dash & the back seat arm rest panels. BTW, if I never properly thanked you for the info (apologies) & Thanks!

That is a super job! I have a '74 and went through mostly the same process, but yours is surely the best job I've seen. The colors are great !
