exhaust plans. 1973 el camino with a mild 327
ok well i have a set of patriot mid length header, and for my birthday i am getting dual tips, the those transam style that are like double downturns? yeah those. i was thinking about getting violator mufflers from pypes, and having the whole set up be 2.5" pipes. may put an h-pipe in it, what are y'alls thoughts?

For a mild 327, 2 1/2 inch pipes might hurt instead of help. I believe 2 inch would get the job done unless you will be doing an engine swap in the future. I am running 2 1/2 inch pipe with Magnsflow mufflers and full length Comp headers and no H pipe and I have a 600 HP, 540 cube engine. I hope to put electric cutouts on before too awfully long. JB

How does that magnaflow exhaust sound i was thinkn of using one with an H pipe. I was going to use 2 1/2 minimum thinkn about three inch. I want a nice deep sound for my 350 but will go with a 383 someday possibly.

I am an old fogey and the noise at 65 MPH is enough to drive you batty. Of course if I was 21 again I might would like the constant drone. JB

The 2 1/2 is plenty big enough for a 383. And maybe by the time you get around to a 383, the exhaust system will need new parts anyway. Like JB said though, the 2 1/2 inch may hurt more than help, since the exhaust gas velocity in the system will be slower/less than with the 2 inch. 3 inch is good for bragging rights though

i got a cammed up 350 putting down about 410 at the crank, my exhaust is 2 1/2" pipes with dual flowmasters and an H-pipe coming out the back, recommend you step up to an x-pipe if you can afford it, but h pipe will work just as well

For a 327, I'm with JB. Stick with 2 or 2.25". 2.5" duals are gonna be deeper, but will honestly hurt your power. I'm running 2.5" dual Summit Fully Welded mufflers on a built 350 & I probably should have went with 2.25" too, but really wanted that deeper tone. BTW, I LOVE the tone of those fully welded muffs. I done a review of them on here somewhere, but type in "Flowtech Afterburner Muffler" on google video for a decent sound comparison. IMHO, they are deeper than Flowmasters, with that same chambered sound. Definitely unique. I've never heard Violator mufflers. Hooker makes a couple of good mufflers too. Screw glass packs, I've been down that road before. They sound good for a few days, but as soon as they get broke in you are left with a cracking exhaust noise that drones on the highway & flows poorly.

Thrush turbos have a great sound as well and I am jumping on bad wagon for the smaller diameter pipes for the 327 even if you get more HP build with the 327 anything over 2.25 is just wasting money on the exhaust and X pipe kits thru PYPES are only 111.89 and some shipping charges for the 2.25 size

violators are pypes newest line and they are real deep, deeper than my brothers z-28's chambered mufflers.
