Does it come with the mobile home too?
Put Jaime Pressley in the passenger seat and I'll sell my kids!

Put her in the passenger seat with an Axe detailer & there's no telling what I would do for the car!

Scheduled for Tuesday the 18th. Based on the Lot #, I'd guess early evening.

Ha! It was my buddy Shawn that bought the"Earl" El Camino at Barrett-Jackson last month! Claims he thought the package came with a weekend of partying with Jaimee Pressley...kidding! Well...at least we can all have peace of mind that it has found a good home here in MN!

He paid $9K; plus the req'd 10% buyer's fee. I'll see if I can't get him to join and post some pics. Right now, it's sitting in his garage and I don't think he really has any plans for it other than just having it for a conversation piece (his middle name is Earl).

In all honesty, it's better off staying that way. Years from now someone will make a crappy remake of the show into a movie & the car will still be around for the producer to get ideas from.

Re: My Name Is Earl 1973 El Camino to sell on Barrett-Jackson.
Hi everyone - through a kind introduction by Mcarlo 77, yesterday I spoke with his friend Shawn and, long story short, agreed to buy the 'Earl El Camino' from him. So pretty soon I will have my own (and first ever, by the way) Chevrolet and a pretty special one at that. Small logistical challenge is I live in Switzerland and will be importing the car there, but this is done all the time so I'm sure it won't be too much of a hassle.
I plan to use the car at our second home, in a small village in the French countryside, actually use the hauling capacity, but won't change a thing to the car - so it'll be ready whenever the crappy remake of the show (which, can't you tell, I really enjoyed) needs to happen. They'll just have to do it in Europe - as in, Earl somehow needs to go to France to look up that French guy Pierre he pestered as a kid, or something like that.
Anyway, I will be lurking around here for sure, because I enjoy working on my own cars and will need lots of info.

Congrats on your buy. I believe from what I have read that the car was taken good care of and they made it look ratty on purpose. If it was mine I would fix the body up and paint it, but then again I have never seen the show in question so don't know who Earl is. JB

Congrats on the score! Let us know if the car truly is ratty or just built to look that way. I'm a fan of the show & car.

Thanks Rago. I'm anxious to find out for myself ... but I will be sure to post here regularly on how this El Camino gets on in France / Switzerland. Will be interesting to see how many people will recognize it here, the show did air in a number of European countries.

That is awesome that you bought that car. I saw one of your other posts the other day saying you bought the "my name is Earl" El Camino, but at the time I thought you just got one similar...but actually, you bought the real thing!! That's great.
I've always wanted to own a movie car and always said if I win the lottery the first thing I'm buying is a General Lee and then a van just like the one on "the A-team"...
good for you
oh yeah I also want one of those cars from the original "mad max" movie, the Australian Furd Falcon or whatever it was..

Re: My Name Is Earl 1973 El Camino to sell on Barrett-Jackson.
Well, last Friday I picked up the 'Earl Camino' from it's port of call, in The Netherlands, and proceeded on home. It's now in Geneva, Switzerland, after I spend the weekend fixing up a host of small things associated with cars sitting idle for probably the better part of two years in this case. Hope there's no rust issues in the gas tank. I drove about 600 miles since Fiday and the mileage was much better than I had expected, just a tad worse than my '69 Mercedes 6 cylinder 2.8 liter. The car has lots of power. I hauled 100 gallons of paint with me from Holland, for my wife who is an artist. First payload!
Here are some pictures:

Re: My Name Is Earl 1973 El Camino to sell on Barrett-Jackson.
Are you going to be able to keep the California plates over there?
Sounds like the car is in better shape than its outer appearance- have you noticed anything not seen from the outside that needs attention?

Hi Bigredlaguna - no, the California plates will have to go, within a week or two to be precise. Probably just as well, because they'd probably get stolen otherwise. I will ask the authorities if I can hold on to them, sometimes they send them back to the issuer (State of California in this case). I do still have the 'license plates' that were on the car in the TV series - on screen you can't see that they're actually fakes.
In the interior, I did do a lot of 'housekeeping' (loose or missing trim screws, misaligned trim and such) and there was actually a kind of plastic 'skin' covering all of the dash (covering up cracks in the dash to be more precise). Also, there seems to be about a mile of unused wiring under the dash and under the hood. Also I am not sure whether all the vacuum hoses that govern the cooling/venting/heating system are all hooked up properly. But these are minor things, driving is a pleasure.
Mechanically, I need to:
- figure out how to properly secure the ignition distributor; it's kind of loose and can be turned by hand easily. I have the shop manual so will work that out
- there's a slight 'tick' coming from one of the cylinder banks, under the valve cover. Engine runs very strong though, and this may be normal
- I think the shocks are toast. I already had to replace all four tires
- the coolant hoses, fan belts and air conditioning system all look brand new; there are two Altima batteries in there in good shape; the radiator looks new also
All this adds up to me as: generally well taken care of, but not nearly as well as I had expected from a car that was a prop in a TV series that must have had a pretty big budget. Dried-out tires is not something one expects on any car, let alone one used 'on the set'.
But I am very pleased to have it now and once these last things have been straigthened out I am sure we'll have years of fun with it.
