Re: 1,000 miles x 2
My '77 hit 150,000 miles. Since purchase nearly 2 years ago, I've put 14,000 miles on it since June 2009.
It's currently sitting at 154,000. I've kind of been using it as my daily driver, especially so since the front suspension's been overhauled.
Pulling commuter duty it's been averaging 14mpg out of the box-stock 2 barrel 305. It's getting 20mpg on the highway on the few road trips I've taken it on to burn a complete tank.

Last year, my car finally broke the 25,000 mile mark on the odometer. Luckily, it got there with no problems that weren't owner-related malfunctions. I love that car.

Re: 1,000 miles x 2
I've had my '74 Malibu since 1990, and have only about 32,000 miles on it since then, but it's a summer-only car.
Did ya ever wonder why we keep these cars we hardly drive? Buying insurance for two cars and two trucks plus the Malibu is getting expensive. When my Elco project is finished (daily driver), some of these rides will have to go I think.

I agree. When I said mine had passed the 25,000 mile mark it was big for me because it came to me with about 24,000 miles. That meant that I've put over 2,500 miles on it since the beginning of last year. I'm not too worried about mileage since I'm trying to keep it as long as possible

Re: 1,000 miles x 2
Indy, your math doesn't add up. 25,000 - 24,000 = 1,000 not 2,500. Seems like a REALLY low mileage car BTW.
I have to agree with Limey & Pila. Why own something that doesn't get driven? I understand project cars not getting driven, but who want's to own a trailer queen or garage trinket? Piss on that! Cars were made to enjoy. Putting miles on a car isn't shameful, especially if you don't plan to sell it. It should be celebrated! Guys that brag about owning a low mileage car just because they don't want to drive it are like virgins bragging about their manhood. It don't make sense.
Go take your classic on a road trip & open it's legs a little on unexplored highways. You'll be glad you did..... I was.

I agree about trailer/garage queens. I still like mine to be on the low end though.
The Monte has close to 70,000 and the 48 Plymouth has 32,000(heavily documented to prove it). Haven't done the math to see how many miles I put on each last summer though.

It PASSED the 25,000 mile mark. It has about 26,500 miles or so on it. I just used 25,000 cause it sounds better and seems like a good mark for a car.

Since I got the Monte Carlo(7/07), I have put exactly 9,198 miles on it.
Put 1,585 on it over the Summer.
Bought with 60,341.
Now has 69,539.
Since my grandpa bought the Plymouth(6/06) it has been driven 4,185 miles.
I put 1,297 on it over the Summer.
Bought with 28,518.
Now has 32,676.

From what I can tell, the original owner bought it new, then had a minor front-end impact because the passenger side front bumper shock is pressed all the way in and the bumper's spaced out with shims (that will be fixed eventually). When I talked to him, he said he parked it for a loooong time, then he restored it and tried to sell it. It's only got a couple of problem spots, but they're all in the engine bay and are gonna get fixed soon.
I definitely wasn't going out in search of such a fresh car, but this one was just too damn good to pass up.
I'll post some more pictures as soon as Indiana warms up and I get it out for a drive. I also wanna do an engine swap SOON, so that'll be a good time for pics.

Definitely a beautiful car from what I've seen so far. Might as well suck in the other shock & call it an improvement though.

Re: 1,000 miles x 2
More mileage wouldn't hurt my Malibu for sure. Not much mileage since I rebuilt the front end suspension and steering, with a quick-ratio box. And the the engine, a built 408, & trans likely have around 3000 miles on them.
Spent a lot of money on it, with new interior, wheels & tires, and base coat-clear coat paint etc. It sure adds up in a hurry when we get started on fixing them up. Haven't had the guts to add up the receipts

Re: 1,000 miles x 2
I would love to drive my 4 cars all the time, but being one person that's not quite feasable. Simply.. I split them up for different driving experiences, Highway = Monte, Everyday = Laguna, Summertime/fast = Camaros. It seems to work out to where all of them get driven (which they need) but none of them really rack up quite all the miles.

Re: 1,000 miles x 2
You are right about the fact that they need to be driven some, even if not a lot of miles. Cars seem to deteriorate some when just being stored and not driven.

My 77 when I got it was barely running. The more I drove it, the better it ran and behaved.
These cars are great driving cars, and I enjoy driving mine.
My 76 i got with 120,000 miles on it, in 1992. By the time I junked it in 2001 it had 199,558 (still have the speedo from it)

Re: 1,000 miles x 2
I just got a quote from Northeast Classic Auto Insurance for my Malibu. $238.00 a year for up to 3000 miles. $125 bucks of that is for Michigan's uninsured driver (the other guy!) coverage. I set the agreed value of $6000.00 which is likely around half of what I have into it, but at least a fender-bender would be covered etc.

That's why I post this type of thread near the end of every year ... I love to see how many miles I've put ON my cars ... though, granted, it isn't much individually.....

When you own more than one rarely driven car, it's tough to get a few miles on each one, even though they need to be driven some.
