How did you tuck your bumper? I like the all black cars theme, it really shows creativity, LoL!

Both bumpers are fiberglass, but still have the inner support. To sink them I drilled the shocks, outer first (shot oil out, not alot of pressure, but don't want your face in the way). Then I drilled the inner part of the shock (same pressurized oil), hit it with a 3lb sledge, lightly, redrilled outer through the inner hole and put a bolt in it to keep it where I want it. Pretty easy actually, most difficult thing was measuring (like 25 times) to make sure I didn't go too far.

Its a .030 over 350with heads from a 69 cutlass (supposed to be best flowing small block Olds heads, I just happened to have a rusted out 69 back in the day). It's mildly built, did it in 85 and I have no idea what I put into it, it ain't screaming fast, but it'll get up.

Eventually it'll be all gloss black, plan on not having any chrome on it at all, what isn't painted, will be powdercoated, just not sure what to do with the outer window felts, they have that little chrome bead in them. Probably will have black wheels and some dark tints. For the time being, I'm kinda digging the flat black, like someone said, if Batman drove a Cutty, it'd look like this.

#5 & #7 heads flow the best. Can't remember off of the top of my head which years they were used in though. Probably somewhere between 68-71 if memory serves me right. Whoa Nelly! You built the motor that long ago? Talk about testament to a good build.

Re: A bit of progress
Yeah they're #5 heads, guess I got lucky. As far as longevity, that's a bit misleading. this thing was stored from 86 to 09 so It really only has a couple hundred miles on the build.

*nods*
I agree ... except the MidSummer gathering is no more ... that was the third and final one, given how much attendance has dropped since the first one 2 years ago....
HOWEVER ... I have been thinking of TRYING something different next year. I may post about those ideas next time I visit the forum...so "stay tuned" .

ahah i love that idea, just paint over the chrome bead or powder coat it black its easy to take off. and im still deciding on painting all my chrome black like my car but eventually my car is gnna be burgundy color, whats your opinions? should i just paint all the trim?

Re: A bit of progress
I have seen one exactly like that in gloss black and it was beautiful. The only thing I did not like about it was he painted everything under the hood, except the engine, gloss black and it looked terrible. Personally I think chrome accents set off a black paint job. I have seriously thought about gloss black for my 74, and keep all the chrome. JB

Re: A bit of progress
Hmmm... I wonder how a whole car would look with black chrome. I saw several cars painted with that new expensive "chrome" paint and they looked fairly good. Would have looked better with a color candy over the top. The paint is made by Alsop or something that starts with an "A". I lost everything when my hard drive went south several weeks or a month ago. I had so much stuff in my "favorites" folders that it would take 30 seconds just to open. JB

Re: A bit of progress
I bet that would be costly. Black chrome is an actual plating just like chrome, but I'm assuming even more expensive?

Re: A bit of progress
$1699.oo plus tax just for a the shebang to do an average size car .....this is just for the material not the actual painting of the black chrome itself.
The shop has to have the machine that use this type of paint which is about 15 grand for the shop to own so it wont for sure be no maaco job

How good would your body work need to be to pull that off?
