I got a new bumper! (98 Monte Carlo)
The original front bumper/nose cone on my 98 MC was cracked to hell, and had a chunk missing. Also, the lower valance was cracked and had pieces missing. I went to the junkyard on Thursday, to try to find a driver's side window switch (and failed) and came across a Lumina LTZ the same exact color as my Monte. (Lumina LTZ and Monte Carlo Z34 shared the same exact nose cone). Price written on the nose was $75. Only has two surface cracks...all in all it's better than my old one. I figured, this is probably a once in a lifetime opportunity, to find a bumper near mint in the junkyard, and the same color as my car so I don't have to get it painted. So, I sat there for about a half hour, cussed a lot, and brought it home and put it on this morning! I haven't had a chance to wash the car and detail/wax the bumper...I'll do that Saturday.
Here's some pics!
Before:
New bumper:
^Small crack in lower valance.
^Small stress crack due to the fender being pushed in on the junkyard car.
^ A few small nicks...
The TRANSITION:
IT'S GONE!
After:
All in all, I am VERY happy with the outcome. Yeah, it has a few flaws, but hey, it's 100x better than the other one.

Lol. It was cracked like that when I got it. I tried to make it look better by taking the tape the previous owner had on, and took off the license plate mounting and touched up all of the bare plastic spots.

Good job! I just took out my taillights and painted "chrome" where the old paint was worn off, now I wish I had taken before and after pics like you did. Oh well, too late now. Now I get to look forward to the fun when my husband comes home and finds out what I did without him. If he gets here early enough, I just might let him reassemble everything.

Good deal !! Its good when that happens. I still after all these years cant get over the styrofoam behind the bumpers on new cars.

YES, but the chrome on my old one is is really nasty shape, and I tried to get one from the junkyard one time, and messed it up pulling it off, the chrome got all crackled. If I can find a brand new chrome strip, cool. If I can't, it'll have to stay the way it is.

Never noticed this before, but looking at the front you could almost remove the bowtie & replace it with a horse...... if you know what I mean.
Looks much better though.

Thanks Road!
Let me rephrase...I dislike Mustangs. My biggest beef about them is THERE ARE SO MANY AROUND. I don't know about where any of you guys live, but they are swarming around here. All years. Maybe becasue I live very close to Dearborn, MI, the home of FoMoCo and about 2 miles from the Mustang plant. IMO...you've seen one built/modified Mustang...ya seen 'em all! Nothing's new anymore. And they all sound the same! The last model ones anyway. I'm sick of them! I HATE HATE HATE the Fox body ones. They're ugly and there's always some younger punk a$$ driving one like a total edit thinking his Mustang is cool!
That's my rant for the day!

Re: I got a new bumper! (98 Monte Carlo)
The few I do like(ALL in stock ONLY):
69 Mach 1
70 BOSS
71-73 all
And YES...the Mustang II
I'm always a fan of the underdog.
Would I ever own one? No. But they're not ones you see on a daily basis.

Re: I got a new bumper! (98 Monte Carlo)
Here's the ones I meant.....
I didn't mean to drop the F word on your thread, but yeah, I'd own either an 85-86 GT or any fastback from 67-69. Probably about it. I used to be a brand loyalist, but then I got smart & learned that they all have their weaknesses. Then I realized that Chevy isn't anything but a cheap throw together motor & that's why they are so popular. You know the saying "You get what you pay for"?
