I realize that JB but he is a newbie comes straight in a spot where we post links and changes it up........................ an Introduction would have been NICE FIRST and then explaining why it has to be moved........... MAKE A PERSON A LITTLE BIT FISHY ABOUT THE MEMBER IS ALL

Re: vin decoder
I'm the guy who made the quickvin decoder website. I decided to move the content to a new domain name.Limey wrote:Please advise who you are to be able to move stuff around Thanks MGMT
No, it is still running on the same physical server. Its a rather pricey HP rackmount with multiple drives and processors so it is not cheap. I happen to know this because I'm the person who bought it and built it up.JB2wheeler wrote:They just switched to a new, and probably cheaper, website. JB
Sorry for not introducing myself. I own the VIN decoder site. I also have owned and restored a number of classic GM cars. I moved it to a new domain name because someone made a rather generous offer to buy the old domain name. They bought the name only, not the site, so I moved the site content to a new name. I believe "VIN" means "wine" in a number of foreign languages so its possible the old domain name might end up being some sort of wine website.Limey wrote:an Introduction would have been NICE FIRST and then explaining why it has to be moved

Re: vin decoder
The web server logs show incoming links. So I got a list of the links and went around to a bunch of websites to let people know I moved it. A lot of people use it so I didn't want people to think it was gone or had changed to something else.

Re: vin decoder
LOL yeah I've had a few G3's and hope to have another someday. One tech tip I can share... I had a 73 Chevelle SS with the swivel buckets (same ones as the Monte Carlos). By now many people have had the swivel buckets go bad because of a broken plastic cage that holds the ball bearings. Well I couldn't find the parts so here is what I did.... Drilled out the center rivet so I could split apart the swivel section, did a wire-wheel cleanup and sprayed it all with rustoleum (they are factory unpainted and tend to rust down there). Then I found some metal balls slightly bigger than the factory ones (got them at Lowe's hardware). Put a ton of grease on em and put them where the old balls & plastic cage were. Then I put it back together with a big bolt/nut/washer where the rivet was. (Tacked the nut with a wirefeed welder so it wouldn't come undone). After all this the seats were super smooth and better than new. And the best part is that there is no more plastic bearing cage to break ever again.
