Re: SBC 355
ohh ok..how much does that extra bore help? i dont know a lot about boring and such, i havent gotten that far in my learning to know how much it helps...i mean an extra 5 inches is an extra 5 inches so i know its good for something.

Re: SBC 355
its not an extra 5" per say just increase the standard bore by .030" that's only 30 thousandth of an inch suppose to increase horsepower

Re: SBC 355
Really not gonna make a noticeable difference. Mostly it comes from a necessity rather than a power increase method. When you tear down an old motor & notice a ridge at the top or scoring in the cylinder, it becomes necessary to bore out the cylinders. Pretty much as simple as that. Here's a formula to follow:
Displacement = (bore) x (bore) x (stroke) x (# of cylinders) x (.7854)
Displacement = (bore) x (bore) x (stroke) x (# of cylinders) x (.7854)

Re: SBC 355
I have a 355ci roller. you get a 350ci and bore it .030 over no difference of stroke or internals. it isnt a 383 stroker until you get a 400ci crank and flywheel or flexplate and usually you change the rods to 6" rods but you dont always have to

Stick with 5.7" rods on a 383. I know 6" rods are an option, but then you get into more block clearances that need to be made, small base circle cams, & also the pin will be higher into the piston. I believe it actually cuts into the bottom ring land. Someone want to double check me on this one?

Re: SBC 355
thats what id like to build eventually...im gonna go with my 350 in the mean time and add cam heads intake and headers, do my interior, suspesnsion, rebuild the rear end, add a posi, new trans, and then id like to build a 383 with a weiand blower...should be pretty mean.
