Re: 76 Laguna parked in 2002
Thank you Limey. I will post pictures of the headliner when I receive it. If I end up needing them I would like to buy them + postage from you.
I`m not going to install the headliner until after paint but trying to get everything together, this summer I hope.

convert the rear brakes to disk . I am going to mount a hood tach like the GTO and run American racing Torq-Thrust ll
with Cooper- cobra tires. I have already installed duel exhaust 2 1/2 with thrush hush mufflers. I have moved my battery to the trunk and installed a ford type starter solenoid.
i read that you're deleting your sport roof ... I'd like to install one one mine, Any chance you still have the trim piece that goes to the rear of the vinyl ??

I really woke mine up just by adding a mild cam, a Quadrajet and dual exhaust. Sold her back in the early 90's after my daughter was born. Really miss that ole girl. Here's a pic. Now the kids have grown and I finally got a 75 Laguna a few years back. I'll never sell this one as my son would have an absolute panic attack if I did. Looking forward to seeing yours completed. Keep the progress reports coming.
Man, I had a 76 that looked EXACTLY like that !! I miss that car - it was my first and I bought it new. Kept it 10 years. Sold it in '86 for a Monte Carlo SS. I drove the hell out of it and it got rather rusty ( mid-atlantic / northeast climate salty roads :-( ). I now have another 76 i found in '08 white w/ blue interior and black stripe and no sport roof. I'd like to re-do this one to look like that someday. What engine is in yours ? and what color interior ?

76LagunaS3- I know I haven`t gotten rid of it, I just can`t put my hands on it. I`ll look and dig and see if I can find it.

Yeah, I fell in love with that car the second I saw it in some guys front yard with a for sale sign on it. I was 19 at the time and bought it on the spot. He was asking $500 for it and I ended up paying $450. One of the best purchases I ever made. Do you have any pics of your 76? I'll start another thread showing pics of my 75 Laguna as I don't want to hi-jack this thread anymore than it already has.

All the info we have is listed on the website.
If you don`t see the info your looking for we don`t have it.
That also means they are not important for fitment.
The manufacture always list the details that will be important to determine if the part will fit your vehicle.
That was no help at all.
This portion of the thread is timely, as I will be doing a headliner install this winter (after my roll cage is complete).
I have a kit from Rock Auto on order and it should arrive within the next few days; expected ship date is Feb 6. I can report out what is included in the kit.
K
Here's what arrived today.
I don't have my old one out so I'm not quite sure what all is involved yet (other than what has already been posted here).
Not sure what the smaller separate square of material is for, unless it is sail panels.

Thank you Keith for the pictures, like others said the extra material is for sun visors . Is there any way you could take a closer picture of one of the ribs with clips ?
Do the clips look large enough to engage the T slots in the roof?
Thank you.

That will look nice when installed. Same setup I received when I ordered mine from OPGI back about 12 years ago.

Re: 76 Laguna parked in 2002
Thank you g3chevy, it will be awhile before I get it installed but at least I can quit worrying about a headliner.
I was going to convert the rear brakes to disk but decided to hold off for now. Instead I replaced the existing system; master cylinder, calipers, wheel cylinders and rubber hoses.

Good Morning. I am also restoring a 1975 Laguna S-3. If you haven't found the Sport Roof option trim, I have an extra one. The trim on the B pillar that divides the vinyl section from the painted one.. My number is (865) 924-1273. Mitch

76 Laguna S3 (member) was asking about the trim , he may be interested.

Re: 76 Laguna parked in 2002
Trying to get my rear bumper ready for install, wish I could get it re chromed but I can`t. Replaced the studs in the impact strip and painted the inside of the bumper. Also cleaned and painted the inner support and shocks. This bumper is heavy so I decided to weigh it.
The chrome bumper= 39.3 lbs
The inner support= 37.8 lbs
The shocks = 16 lbs for a total of 93.1 lbs.
Has anyone lightened there bumper by cutting the inner support ?
Would it make any difference. This is just a street car.

Re: 76 Laguna parked in 2002
Looking good Jerry! Here are a couple threads on inner bumper reinforcements. GM seems to have had different versions even on the same year vehicles. I'm thinking you can cut most of that inner support out without affecting how it mounts or looks from the outside.

I have.
The first iteration was cutting the inner support so that there was just enough material to hold the bumper on (ie, save the area nearest the shock, and then flare out to pick up a few of the bumper bolts).
I spent the whole summer between my junior year and senior year of high school riding the die grinder with a cutoff wheel, cutting away everything I could. I wouldn't be able to manage that today (either physically, or timewise).
I eventually went to a fiberglass front bumper. It now has 1/4" by 2" aluminum flat stock holding it on. I still run the steel bumper on the rear.

Thank you Keith, I plan to cut it at about 50/50. My brother has an acetylene torch I can use if I get the bottles filled! I sure miss the benefits of working in a steel fab shop for 36 years.

Re: 76 Laguna parked in 2002
Ended up using an angle grinder with cut off wheel to carve up the inner support. It weighed 37.8 lbs before and 18.3 after cutting, lost 19.3 lbs just a little over half.
Now I`m thinking about tucking the rear bumper. I have searched and watched a few videos but seems no one shows good pictures of the finished job. No one mentions trimming the bumper fillers. Anyone ever do a bumper tuck and then wish they had left it alone ?
I found a picture of a 75 Laguna that had deleted the rear bumper. I wish someone made a fiberglass kit to do this.

I often say there are two kinds of cars: those with chrome and those without. If you are asking for opinions I would say it looks nice in a 80s or 90s kind of way but loses the G3 look for better or worse. Depends on whether you want to leave the 70s behind haha.
